PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET (PIL)

KATINKO® OINTMENT

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Methyl salicylate + Menthol + Camphor 80 mcg/75 mcg/26 mcg per gram (KATINKO®) Ointment is a green ointment packed
in a 10-g and 30-g white polypropylene plastic jar with a cap.

WHAT IS IN THE MEDICINE?


This medicine contains Methyl Salicylate, Menthol, and Camphor.

METHYL SALICYLATE is a counterirritant that is used to produce surface irritation of the skin, thereby counteracting
underlying pain or discomfort. It causes reddening of the skin due to increase blood flow and it relieves pain in various
muscle and skeletal pain.

MENTHOL is a crystalline compound with a cooling and minty odor that is used for pain relief (analgesia) for minor muscle
and joint pain.

CAMPHOR is a topical pain reliever used to treat skin conditions like itching and irritations and improve respiratory function
and inflammatory conditions.

Other ingredients are Eucalyptus oil, Chlorophyll, and White Petroleum Jelly.

WHAT IS THIS MEDICINE USED FOR?


KATINKO® Ointment is used on the skin for the relief of discomfort associated to:
• Headache
• Muscle and joint pains
• Skin itch primarily caused by insect bites
• Travel sickness
• Flatulence (passing gas from the digestive system out of the back passage or farting).

HOW MUCH AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE THIS MEDICINE?
Apply generously to the affected area as often as required or repeat the application 3 to 4 times daily until relieved. Use
this medication as directed by your doctor or follow all directions on the product package. If you have any questions, talk
to your doctor or pharmacist.

WHEN SHOULD YOU NOT USE THIS MEDICINE?


• allergic to the active ingredients or any other ingredients of KATINKO® Ointment.
• Children under 2 years of age and below
• Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers

CARE THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE


Wash your hands after application, to avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this occurs, wash away with plenty
of clean water.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS OF THIS MEDICINE


Like all medicines, Katinko® Ointment can cause side effects for those persons with sensitive skin. The following side effects
may occur:
• Skin redness
• Mild itching or stinging sensation at the site of application

Tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly if any of these effects last or get worse.

WHAT OTHER MEDICINE OR FOOD SHOULD BE AVOIDED WHILE USING THIS MEDICINE?
No listed drug interactions with other drugs.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE


• Severe redness of the skin
• Severe burning sensation
• Skin irritation or Rashes

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE APPLIED MORE THAN THE RECOMMENDED DOSAGE?
Consult a doctor or contact a poison control center right away. Quick medical attention is important.

HOW SHOULD YOU KEEP THIS MEDICINE?


Keep out of reach of children. Keep the medicine in a dry, well-ventilated area at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Do not
use after the expiry date which is printed on the container and carton.

WHEN SHOULD YOU CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR?


If you experience excessive irritation or redness on the skin for more than a week or new symptoms occur.
