The National Deworming Day, which targets to deworm 16 million school children
from Kinder to Grade 6 in all public schools nationwide are project of DOH in partnership
with DepEd to cure the high prevalence of children affected by intestinal parasitic infections
which may lead to cognitive impairment and malnutrition, among other complications.
The teacher makes sure that all their students received the parents permit prior to
the said date of deworming so that no one will leave behind. All the students who have parent
consent need to have full stomach before entering to the school that will serve as a precautionary
measure in taking deworming medicine. Nurse Cornelia Shirly Encinares of Padre Garcia District
Nurse facilitate the distribution of chewable tablets to the pupils with the assistance of health
personnel and their advisers.
At the end, the said occasion was very successful with the collaborative effort of
everyone. Health and education, particularly for school-age children, are truly closely interrelated
and effective learning cannot happen without the students being healthy.
