a) What must be the signal power Si at the receiver input.
b) What is the receiver output noise power No.
c) What is the minimum transmitted power Sr if the channel
transfer function is H,{w) = 10-4 over the transmission band?

1. A) A DSB_SC modulated signal is transmittd over a noisy channel, with the


power spectral density of the noise being as shown in the figure below. The
message bandwidth is 4 kHz and-tt,.: carrier frequncy is 200 kHz. Assuming
that the average power of the modulated wave is 10 watts, determine the
output SNR of the receiver.{Mark: 4)

B) Let a message signal m{t) be transmitted using SSB modulation. The
power spectral density of m(t) is :

radians/sec/volt and the phase deviation constant equals 20 radians/volt.

i. Estimate the bandwidth of FM and PM?
ii. Repeat part (i) if the amplitude is doubled.
iii. Repeat part (i) if the message frequency is halved?
iv. Estimate FM bandwidth if m(t) = sin 20,000 rrt + sin 4000 rrt?

3. A) A modulating signal m(t) band limited to 4KHz is sampled at the rate of

i. Calculate the step size 6. required to minimize slope overload? And
explain what is meant by slope overload?
ii. Calculate the signal-to-quantization noise ratio of the system for the
specified sinusoidal test signal?
