Objectives
 To get to know the use of a temperature control trainer
 To get familiar with the working of the trainer
 To learn about the various characteristics of Pt-100 sensor
 To draw a characteristic curve between measured voltage and temperature

Apparatus
 Temperature Control Trainer (IT-5202)
 Connecting wires
 Digital Multimeter
Circuit Diagram

Procedure
 To start the process of completing the circuit of the temperature control trainer, the
apparatus was switched off.
 First, the water pump driver circuit was completed.
 This was done by making the 9-9 and 10-10 connections and connecting it with the
ON/OFF controller.
Control Engineering Lab

 After that, the heater driver circuit was completed, to raise the temperature to a specific
level.
 To detect the voltage variations with temperature, the circuit for the temperature sensor
was completed, and a digital multimeter was connected.
 The set up of the experiment was completed with this procedure.
 After this, the apparatus was turned on and a set value of temperature was fed, and the
corresponding values of voltages with different temperatures were recorded.

Observations and Calculations

Temperature (°C) Voltage (Forward) Voltage (Reverse)

29.0 3.27 3.27
29.5 3.28 3.29
30.0 3.30 3.34
30.5 3.32 3.36
31.0 3.33 3.37
31.5 3.35 3.38
32.0 3.37 3.39
32.5 3.40 3.41
33.0 3.44 3.44

It was observed that the temperature and voltage were in direct relation. This can be seen from
the graphs in the below section as well. As the temperature was increased by the heat driver, the
corresponding voltage shown on the multimeter was also increased. Similarly, as the temperature
decreased, the corresponding voltage decreased. During our experiment, we noticed a hysteresis
effect, which basically means that the voltage values at the same temperatures were different
during the forward and reverse cases. The hysteresis effect may be due to the thermal lag in the
system. When the temperature is rising, there is a delay in the response of the temperature sensor
and the subsequent adjustment of the voltage to the heater. This lag can create a temporary
imbalance in the system, leading to hysteresis.

Safety Precautions
 Begin the experiment with the temperature control trainer set to a low temperature. Gradually
increase the temperature, monitoring the equipment closely to prevent overheating and potential
hazards.
 Before starting the experiment, inspect all equipment for any signs of damage or wear. Do not
proceed if there are any concerns about the condition of the equipment.
 Be cautious with electrical connections. Ensure that all electrical components are properly
insulated and avoid exposing wires or connectors to water or other conductive materials.
 Maintain clear communication among team members.
