Section A
These questions are case study based Questions.
Read the following paragraphs and answer the questions.
The electric field due to a charge at a point in space may be defined as the force that a unit positive charge
would experience, if placed at that point. It is vector quantity and its SI unit is N/C .
The magnitude of the electric field at a point is given by E= 1/4πε . q/r²
Electric field lines start from positive charges and end at negative charges. In the case of a single charge,
they may start or end at infinity. They may start or end at infinity.
Two field lines can never intersect each other because, if they intersect, then tangents drawn at that point
will represent two directions of field at that point, which is not possible. Electric field lines do not pass
through a conductor.
i. Four point charges are placed at the corners of a square of side a cm as shown in figure. Find the
magnitude and direction of the electric field at the centre O of the square.
ii. The Dimensions of an atom are of the order of an angstrom, thus there must be large electric
fields between the protons and electrons. Why there is the electrostatic field inside a conductor
zero?
iii. A charged particle is free to move in an electric field. Will it always along a line of force?
Explain.
iv. Sketch the electric field lines for a uniformly charged hollow cylinder as shown in the figure.
2. Electric field strength is proportional to the density of lines of force i.e., electric field strength at a point is
proportional to the number of lines of force cutting a unit area element placed normal to the field at that
point. As illustrated in given figure, the electric field at P is stronger than at Q.
(iii) Which one of the following patterns of electric line of force is not possible in field due to
stationary charges?
(a) EA>EB>EC
(b) EB>EA>EC
(c) EA=EB>EC
(d) EA>EB=EC
Section B
Assertion and reason:-
Directions: These questions consist of two statements, each printed as Assertion and Reason. While
answering these questions, you are required to choose any one of the following four responses.
(a) Both Assertion and Reason are correct and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion.
(b) Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not a correct explanation of the Assertion.
(c) Assertion is correct, Reason is incorrect
(d) Both Assertion and Reason are correct.
3. Assertion: Electron move away from a region of lower potential to a region of higher potential.
Reason: An electron has a negative charge.
4. Assertion : A metallic shield in form of a hollow shell may be built to block an electric field.
Reason : In a hollow spherical shield, the electric field inside it is zero at every point.
5. Assertion : Electric lines of force never cross each other.
Reason : Electric field at a point superimpose to give one resultant electric field.
6. Assertion: Electric force between two charges always acts along the line joining the two charges
Reason: Electric force is a conservative force.
7. Assertion : The Coulomb force is the dominating force in the universe.
Reason : The Coulomb force is weaker than the gravitational force.
8. Assertion : In a cavity within a conductor, the electric field is zero.
Reason : Charges in a conductor reside only at its surface.
9. Assertion : The total charge stored in a capacitor is zero.
Reason : The field just outside the capacitor is σ/ε0 . (σ is the charge density).
10. Assertion : Electric field inside a conductor is zero.
Reason: The potential at all the points inside a conductor is same.
11. Assertion : Electric field is discontinuous across the surface of a spherical charged shell.
Reason : Electric potential is continuous across the surface of a spherical charged shell.
12. Assertion : Work done in moving a charge between any two points in an electric field is independent of
the path followed by the charge, between these points.
Reason: Electrostatic force is a non conservative force.
13. Assertion : Electric potential and electric potential energy are different quantities.
Reason : For a system of positive test charge and point charge electric potential energy = electric potential.
14. Assertion : Polar molecules have permanent dipole moment.
Reason : In polar molecules, the centres of positive and negative charges coincide even when there is no
external field.
15. Assertion : In the absence of an external electric field, the dipole moment per unit volume of a polar
dielectric is zero.
Reason : The dipoles of a polar dielectric are randomly oriented
16. Assertion : For a point charge, concentric spheres centered at a location of the charge are equipotential
surfaces.
Reason : An equipotential surface is a surface over which potential has zero value.
17. Assertion : Electric energy resides out of the spherical isolated conductor.
Reason : The electric field at any point inside the conductor is zero.
18. Assertion: Two equipotential surfaces can be orthogonal.
Reason: Electric field lines are normal to the equipotential surface.
19. Assertion: The equatorial plane of a dipole is an equipotential surface.
Reason: The electric potential at any point on equatorial plane is zero.
20. Assertion : A parallel plate capacitor is connected across battery through a key. A dielectric slab of
dielectric constant k is introduced between the plates. The energy stored becomes k times.
Reason : The surface density of charge on the plate remains constant.

Question 17. In macroeconomics we usually simplify the analysis of how the countries total production and
the level of employment are related to attributes called variables like prices, rate of interest, wage rate, profit
and so on by focusing on single imaginary commodity and what happened to it we are able to afford this
simplification and thus usefully abstain from studying what happens to the many real commodities that
actually are bought and sold in the market because we generally see that what happened to the prices,
interest, wages and profit for one commodity more or less also happen for the others. Particularly when
these attributes start changing fast like when prices are going up what is called and inflation and production
level are going down heading for a depressions, the general direction of the movement of these variables for
all the individual commodities are usually of the same kind as are seen for the aggregate for the economy as
a whole

ENGLISH
(Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions)
Humility treads the fine line between arrogance and self depreciation.Humility, modesty and down to earth
are synonyms derived from the Latin,'humus', translatable as 'grounded or from the earth'.So , what makes
someone humble? Are the humble meek or psychologically weak?
In today's stressful world, greatly concerned with the pursuit of happiness,a bit of humility can deliver great
reserves of inner strength.
Gandhiji felt that humility is an essential virtue that must exist in a person for other virtues to emerge. To
Swami Vivekananda, humility did not mean crawling on all fours and calling oneself a sinner.Instead,it
meant recognition and feeling oneness with everyone and everything else in the universe, without inferiority
or superiority or any other bias.
Is it possible to develop humility? We must first embrace our humanness and have an accurate understanding
of our strengths and weakness.Expressing gratitude can induce humility in us and humble people have a
greater capacity for conveying gratitude.
Holding nature in high esteem, recognition it as an overwhelming and awe-inspiring force reminds us of our
own insignificance in the cosmic scale.Being curious and open to learning fosters humility.Emulating great
people and imbibing from them what we lack in our own understanding can build our own reserves of
humility. After all,as Socrates said, wisdom is,above all, knowing what we don't know.
