Activity Activity: “What can you say Marites?!”

(5 minutes) Mechanics: A set of pictures will be shown. The learners will be asked to share
their observations in comparing the two pictures.

Set 1:

(Monogamy vs. Polygamy)

Set 2:
(WIFI vs. Ethernet Connection)

Set 3:

(Series vs. Parallel

Circuit)

Integration: Social Studies, ICT, and EIM

Analysis Guide Questions:

(5 minutes) 1. What are the attributes found in each set of pictures?
2. What are the commonalities between the set of pictures?
(Relationship/Association)
3. What is the difference between the set of pictures? (One-one vs. one-
many)

Abstraction Relation- any set of ordered pairs. The set of all first elements of the
(15 minutes) ordered pairs is called the domain of the relation, and the set of all
second elements is called the range.
Function - a relation or rule of correspondence between two elements
(domain and range) such that each element in the domain corresponds
to exactly one element in the range.
Functions can be represented through:
1. Ordered Pairs

To determine whether a relation, presented through an ordered pair, is

a function, one must consider that all the elements of the domain must
not have any duplication.

2. Mapping Diagram

Symbols to consider in determining function using a mapping diagram:

Relation – makes use of the less than (<) sign.
Function - makes use of the greater than (>) sign and the directional
sign.

3. Table of Values

To determine whether a relation, presented through a table of values, is

a function, one must consider that all the elements of the domain must
not have any duplication.
4. Graphs
By doing the Vertical Line Test, one can determine whether a graph is a
function. If the vertical line intersects the graph at exactly one point,
then it is a function. If it intersects two or more points in the graph, then
it is not a function.

5. Equation

Application Instruction: Determine whether the given is a FUNCTION or just a

(10 minutes) RELATION. State also what representation is being used.

1. 2.

3. 4.

5. 6.

7. 8.

Assessment Instruction: Choose the letter of the best answer.

8 (minutes) 1. What do you call a relation where each element in the domain is
related to only one value in the range by some rules?
a. Function b. Domain c. Range d. Independent
2. Which of the following relations is/are function/s?
a. x = {(1,2), (3,4), (1,7), (5,1)}
b. g = {(3,2), (2,1), (8,2), (5,7)}
c. h = {(4,1), (2,3), (2, 6), (7, 2)}
d. y = {(2,9), (3,4), (9,2), (6,7)}
3. In a relation, what do you call the set of x values or the input?
a. Piecewise b. Domain c. Range d. Dependent

4. What is the range of the function shown by the diagram?

a. R: {3, 2, 1} b. R: {a, b} c. R: {3, 2, 1, a, b} d. R:{all real

numbers}
5. Which of the following tables represent a function?

a. b.

c. d.

Assignment In three to five sentences, write the significance of function in showing

(2 minutes) real-life situations.

Concluding Activity “Representation is about demanding that we’re all seen and affirming that we all
matter.”
- Pilar, Brooklyn
