Marking scheme

 1. u = -40cm , R = -20cm , n1 = 1 , n2 = 1.33 But

i) n2 /v - n1/u = n2- n1/R ½
Substituting values and solving ,
v = -32 cm ½
ii) magnification (m) = h2/h1 = n1u/n2v ½
Substituting values and solving , h2 = +0.6 cm ½
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
 2. i) for a telescope :L2 and L3 ½
L3 as objective and L2 as eyepiece ½
ii) for a microscope : L1 and L2 ½
L2 as objective and L1 as eyepiece ½
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 3. n= sin i/ sin r ½
√3 = sin 60/sin r
sin r= sin 60/ √3 =1/√3*√3/2 =1 /2 ½
r=30 ½

Or

Sin 30 /sin e = n12 = 1/n21 ½

Sine =n21*sin30 ½

or e = 60 ½

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 4. Complete ray diagram 1

Complete derivation 2

∠i = ∠e and r1 = r2 = r
Or
½+½

Correct graph between ∠i and ∠e ½

Complete derivation 1½

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. i) f <0

½+½

ii) f =∞

½+½
iii) f >0

½+½
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 6. For refraction through S1,
n1/-u + n2/v = n2-n1/R ½
1.5/-50+ 1/v = 1-1.5 /-10 = 1/20 ½
Or i/v = 1/20 -3/100 =1/50
V = 50 cm ½

Refrection through S2 : n1/-u + n2/v = n2-n1/R ½

1.5/∞ -1/u = 1.5-1 /10 ½
U = -20 cm
D = 20+50 = 70 cm ½

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 7. F1 =f2 =f3 =20, u1= -40 cm

By 1/v1 -1/u1 = 1/f1 = v1 = 40 cm ½
Now f3 = 20 , v3 = 20 cm
Therefore, 1/v3 -1/u3 = 1/f3 =1/u3 =0 or u3 = ∞ ½
Therefore, L2 must produce image at infinity. ½
Hence for L2 object must be at its focus (i.e. 20cm in left side ) ½
Now image of L1 is at 40 cmwhich is focus of L2 ½
Therefore, dist. Betn L1 and L2 = 40+20 =60 cm ½
As the image formed by L2 is at infinity
Therefore, distance between L2 and L3 can have any value . ½
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 8. A) compound microscope ½
B)P=1/f
Therefore, f0= 1/p = 1/100 m = 1 cm ½
And fe =1/p = 1/50m = 2 cm ½
C) magnification of compound microscope
M= L*D/ f0* fe ½
25*25/1*2 = 312.5 ½

 9. Complete ray diagram 1

Complete derivation 2

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 10. i)complete ray diagram 1

ii) (a) correct formula ½
(b) correct formula ½
iii) two advantages ½+½
or
i) complete ray diagram 1
ii) definition and formula ½+½
iii) (a) if focal length are less , then magnitude power will be more .
(b) to avoid any aberration . ½+½
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 11. Refractive index n =1/sin ie ½

Therefore ,
Refractive index for critical angle of 450 is
n= 1/sin 430 =√2 = 1.414 ½
now ,
(sin ic ) red = 1/1.39 ; ic > 450 or ic > i ½
(sin ic ) green = 1/1.44 ; ic < 450 or ic < i ½
And (sin ic ) blue = 1/1.47 ; ic < 450 or ic < i ½
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 12. (i) correct definition 1

(ii) maximum or high coupling efficiency ½
(iii) to decrease attenuation or power loss ½
(iv) calculation and ic = 60 0

(v) calculation and time =0.577 ms 1½
