CIS 165 – Project Instructions

Objective
This project is designed to help you practice advanced Excel skills, including using formulas,
drawing graphs, using conditional formatting, sorting data, and creating pivot tables.

Instructions
1. Basic Formulas
1. Open the provided Excel file 'CIS_Project.xlsx'.
2. Calculate the average score for each student across Math, Science, and English.
3. Calculate the highest and lowest scores in each subject.
4. Calculate the overall class average for each subject.

2. Drawing Graphs
1. Create a bar graph to represent the scores of each student in Math, Science, and English.
2. Create a line graph to show the trend of average scores of students across the subjects.
3. Create a pie chart to show the distribution of students' average scores in different ranges (e.g.,
60-70, 70-80, 80-90, 90-100).

3. Conditional Formatting
1. Apply conditional formatting to highlight scores below 75 in red.
2. Apply conditional formatting to highlight scores above 90 in green.
3. Apply conditional formatting to highlight the highest score in each subject.

4. Cell Formatting
1. Apply a yellow fill color and bold font to the header row.
2. Apply borders to all cells in the data range.

5. Sorting and Filtering


1. Sort the data by the average score in descending order.

6. Pivot Tables
1. Create a pivot table to show the average score for each subject.
2. Create a pivot table to show the total number of students scoring above and below 75 in each
subject.

Submission
Save your completed Excel file with your name included in the filename and submit it on Moodle
by the due date.
