Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training Workshop,
FEBRUARY 14, 2024 (1st Batch)
The Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) Training
Workshop commenced promptly at 8:00 am after the arrival of the MDRRMO San Jose team at
Magsaysay Hillside Resort. The event began with a prayer, setting a solemn tone for the day
ahead. To energize the participants, a lively Zumba session followed, ensuring everyone was
awake and engaged.
The morning session featured four distinguished speakers who shared their expertise on various
aspects of disaster risk reduction and management.
Sir Sir Sergio T. Gaudiel II, LDRRM Officer III, initiated the discussions by delving into
Module 1: The Philippine Disaster Context. He emphasized the country's vulnerability to natural
hazards and the importance of preparedness. Additionally, he elucidated on the distinction
between natural and human-induced hazards, fostering a comprehensive understanding among
the participants.
Ma’am Alicia M. Cajayon, RSW, elucidated on Republic Act No. 10821, providing a legal
framework for disaster risk reduction and management initiatives.
Sir Roderick Jalac Velasco, shed light on the significance of gender in CBDRRM, emphasizing
inclusivity and the need to consider diverse perspectives in disaster preparedness and response
efforts.
Sir Sir Ronnel F. Mindo, LDRRM Assistant, concluded the morning session with an
interactive exercise, followed by a discussion on basic disaster and climate change concepts. His
comprehensive overview encompassed key terms such as hazards, vulnerability, and disaster
risk, equipping participants with essential knowledge.
The afternoon session commenced with Sir Sir Jerone Abuan Parcia, Administrative Aide IV
– Communication Equipment Operator I, presenting Module 2: Understanding CBDRRM.
Through engaging discussions and a poignant video presentation, he underscored the importance
of community involvement and proactive measures in disaster management.
Sir Sir Gil O. Mendrano, MDRRM Officer, elucidated on the legal foundations of CBDRRM,
outlining pertinent legislation and frameworks essential for effective disaster response and
mitigation.
Sir Jerone A. Parcia, Adminitrative Aide IV – Communication Equipment Operator I,
returned to discuss Module 3: CBDRRM Process, providing insights into the formation of
Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs) and their pivotal
role in disaster preparedness and response.
Ma’am Ma'am Marie Joy C. Domingo, MGADH-I, concluded the workshop by delving into
participatory DRRM planning and implementation. Her session emphasized the formulation of
comprehensive Barangay DRRM Plans and the importance of community-driven initiatives.
Throughout the workshop, interactive activities such as group exercises and spot mapping were
conducted, fostering collaboration and practical application of concepts learned.
The Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training Workshop proved to
be a fruitful endeavor, equipping participants with valuable knowledge and skills essential for
enhancing community resilience. The engagement and enthusiasm exhibited by all attendees
underscored the significance of such initiatives in building safer and more prepared
communities.
