Assignment Name:
a) In a 1-D medium, amplitude of a harmonic transverse wave is 10cm. Wave
length is 100cm and frequency is 5Hz. Write down the mathematical
expression for the wave. How much is the phase velocity of the medium?

b) Suppose analogy can be drawn between propagation of tsunami in ocean and


propagation of transverse wave in an infinite string. How would the
propagation of a tsunami be at different times for an initial fault rupture of
the form U(x) = 10δ(x)? Suppose there is no initial velocity i.e., V(x) = 0.
