“Section – A” ( 1*5=5 Marks )
1. (I) The current in the primary coil of a pair of coils changes from 7A to 3A in 0.04 Sec. The mutual
inductance between the two coil is 0.5 H. The induced emf in the secondary coil is?
(II) A thin semicircular conducting ring of radius R is falling with its plane vertical in a horizontal
magnetic field B. At the position MNQ, the speed of the ring is v and the potential difference across
the ring is

(III) What is the frequency of the AC mains in India?

2. (I) What is Faraday’s 2nd law?
(II) What do you mean by alternating current? Graphically represent and hence write about frequency?
(III) The coil of area 100cm2 is kept at an angle of 300 with a magnetic field of 10 -1 T. The magnetic field is
reduced to zero in 10 -4 Sec. The induced emf is the coil is?

(IV) Define the terms self inductance and write its S.I unit?

(V) A coil of mean area 500cm2 and having 1000 turns is held perpendicular to a uniform field of 0.4
Gauss average induced emf. (B1=0.4 Gauss) (B1=0.4×10-4 T)
(VI) The self inductance of a solenoid of 600 turns is 108mH. The self inductance of a coil having 500 turns
with the same length, the same radius and the same medium will be what?
(VII) Why AC is more dangerous than DC?

3. (I) A Current carrying solenoid ‘S’ of radius ‘r’ with 100 turns per unit length is placed coaxially inside
coil ‘C’ of 100 turns and twice the radius of the solenoid as shown.
Current ‘I’ through the solenoid ‘S’ Changes from 2 A in one
direction to 2 A in the opposite direction within an interval of
2 seconds.
A. What is the rate of change in current that occurs in the solenoid?
B. Calculate the rate of changes in flux experienced by coil ‘C’ due to a change in current in solenoid
‘S’ in terms of radius ‘r’ of solenoid ‘S’.
(II) Define self inductance of long solenoid.
(III) A long solenoid with 15 turns per cm has a small loop of area 2.0cm 2 placed inside the solenoid normal
to its axis. If the current carried by the solenoid changes steadily from 2.0 A to 4.0 A in 0.1 sec. What
is the induced emf in the loop while the current is changing?
(IV) Define average value of AC for half cycle.
(V) A pair of adjacent coils has a mutual inductance of 1.5H. If the current in one coil changes from 0 A to
20 A in 0.5 sec. What is the change of flux linkage with the other coil?
(VI) A coil of wire enclosing an area 100 cm 2 is placed with its plane making an angle 600 with the
magnetic field of strength 10-1 T. What is the flux through the coil? If magnetic field is reduced to zero
in 10-3 s, then find the induced emf ?
(VII) A rectangular coil of area ‘A’ having number of turns ‘N’ is rotated at ‘f’ revolutions per second in a
uniform magnetic field ‘B’ the field being perpendicular to the coil.
Prove that the maximum emf induced in the coil is 2πfNBA.

4. (I) What is AC Generator? Drive an expression for induced emf in a coil rotating in magnetic field.
(Or)
What is alternating current? Derive RMS value of AC?
(II) Define mutual inductance.
(Or)
A circular loop of conducting wire is placed in a time varying magnetic field such that the plane of the
loop is perpendicular to the magnetic field. The graph below represents the variation of the magnetic
field with time.

A. In which time interval will the current induced in the coil be in the clockwise direction? Give
reason.
B. Calculate the induced emf in the coil for the time interval t=0 s to t=15 s , if the area of the loop is
5×10-4 m2.
C. Graphically represent the induced emf as a function of time.
