(IV) Define the terms self inductance and write its S.I unit?
(V) A coil of mean area 500cm2 and having 1000 turns is held perpendicular to a uniform field of 0.4
Gauss average induced emf. (B1=0.4 Gauss) (B1=0.4×10-4 T)
(VI) The self inductance of a solenoid of 600 turns is 108mH. The self inductance of a coil having 500 turns
with the same length, the same radius and the same medium will be what?
(VII) Why AC is more dangerous than DC?
“Section – C” (answer any five) ( 3*5=15 Marks )
3. (I) A Current carrying solenoid ‘S’ of radius ‘r’ with 100 turns per unit length is placed coaxially inside
coil ‘C’ of 100 turns and twice the radius of the solenoid as shown.
Current ‘I’ through the solenoid ‘S’ Changes from 2 A in one
direction to 2 A in the opposite direction within an interval of
2 seconds.
A. What is the rate of change in current that occurs in the solenoid?
B. Calculate the rate of changes in flux experienced by coil ‘C’ due to a change in current in solenoid
‘S’ in terms of radius ‘r’ of solenoid ‘S’.
(II) Define self inductance of long solenoid.
(III) A long solenoid with 15 turns per cm has a small loop of area 2.0cm 2 placed inside the solenoid normal
to its axis. If the current carried by the solenoid changes steadily from 2.0 A to 4.0 A in 0.1 sec. What
is the induced emf in the loop while the current is changing?
(IV) Define average value of AC for half cycle.
(V) A pair of adjacent coils has a mutual inductance of 1.5H. If the current in one coil changes from 0 A to
20 A in 0.5 sec. What is the change of flux linkage with the other coil?
(VI) A coil of wire enclosing an area 100 cm 2 is placed with its plane making an angle 600 with the
magnetic field of strength 10-1 T. What is the flux through the coil? If magnetic field is reduced to zero
in 10-3 s, then find the induced emf ?
(VII) A rectangular coil of area ‘A’ having number of turns ‘N’ is rotated at ‘f’ revolutions per second in a
uniform magnetic field ‘B’ the field being perpendicular to the coil.
Prove that the maximum emf induced in the coil is 2πfNBA.
A. In which time interval will the current induced in the coil be in the clockwise direction? Give
reason.
B. Calculate the induced emf in the coil for the time interval t=0 s to t=15 s , if the area of the loop is
5×10-4 m2.
C. Graphically represent the induced emf as a function of time.
