Course outcomes: The objective of this paper is to help students to:


1. Acquire conceptual knowledge of the fundamentals of accounting
2. Acquire skills for recording business transactions and preparing financial statements
3. To provide students with sufficient theoretical knowledge and practical experience to be able to
value a company using different valuation
4. This course enables to understand basic concepts about issue of shares and Debentures
5. Understand various methods of depreciation and learn advantages and disadvantages of such
methods

terminology of accounting, Difference between accounting & book keeping.
Importance & limitations of accounting, Various users of accounting information, 7
Accounting Principles: Conventions & Concepts. Dual aspect of accounting, Types
of accounts, Accounting Equation, Rules of debit & credit,
Unit II: Terms of Accounting: Preparation of journal Ledger and Trial balance,
Subsidiary books of accounts.

Unit III: Final Accounts; Manufacturing account; Trading account; Profit and loss
account; Balance Sheet; Adjustment entries, 12
UNIT IV: Basic concepts: Income, agricultural income, person, assessee,
assessment year, previous year, gross total income, total income, maximum 6
marginal rate of tax;
Residential status; Scope of total income on the basis of residential status Exempted
income under section 10

UNIT V: Computation of Income under different heads-1 10
