Traditional British cuisine

The United Kingdom is known for a variety of traditional dishes that reflect its history
and culture. While British cuisine has evolved over the centuries, some dishes remain
iconic and are enjoyed by people across the country.

Fish and Chips: This classic dish consists of battered fried fish, usually cod, served
with thick-cut fries. It’s a popular takeaway meal and often comes with mushy peas.

Full English Breakfast: A hearty breakfast that includes eggs, bacon, sausages, beans,
and toast. It’s filling and enjoyed not only in the morning but sometimes throughout
the day.

Sunday Roast: A traditional Sunday meal featuring roasted meat, potatoes, vegetables,
and Yorkshire pudding. It’s usually served with gravy and enjoyed with family.

Shepherd’s Pie: A comforting dish made with minced lamb and mashed potatoes
on top. Cottage pie is similar but uses beef instead of lamb.

Bangers and Mash: This simple meal consists of sausages served with mashed
potatoes. It’s often accompanied by gravy or fried onions.

Afternoon Tea: A light meal of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, and small
cakes served with tea. It’s a social British tradition, especially in the afternoon.

Christmas: Traditional British Christmas dinner often includes roast turkey with
stuffing, roasted potatoes, vegetables, and gravy. For dessert, Christmas pudding
is a popular choice.

Easter: Lamb is commonly served on Easter Sunday, along with roasted vegetables.
Hot cross buns, spiced buns with raisins and a cross on top, are eaten around Easter
time.

Valentine’s Day: Romantic dinners often feature dishes like steak, seafood, or pasta.
Heart-shaped chocolates and desserts are also popular.

Halloween: On Halloween, sweet treats like toffee apples and candy are enjoyed, along
with pumpkin-based dishes, such as pumpkin pie or soup.
