Plotting Graph in Excel- Instructions

Microsoft Excel is a tool which has many uses, the most common of which are performing calculations
and plotting the graphs.

Note: When making a graph, it is important to always enter the data in adjacent columns. The x data
always goes on left of the y data.

 The first step in doing a spread sheet calculation or making the graph is entering the
data.
 Column A will automatically take as X- axis and column B as Y axis.
 Enter the values of X axis as well as Y axis.

 Select both columns and go to insert tab and click ‘Charts’


 For a best fit graph select scatter graph option.
 After clicking the scatter option the graph will appear.
 In the graph the left most part three options will appear. The first option is the ‘Chart
Elements’. Click the Chart Elements, you can name the X and Y axis.
 After naming the axis, name the graph title by clicking the ‘Chart title’.
 For the best fit graph select ‘Gridline’ option in ‘Chart Elements’ tab.
 While selecting the grid line option there will be an arrow in the gridline which is
giving more options for your graph.
 In the more options select major gridlines as well as minor grid lines to make exactly
as a graph sheet. (major as well as minor gridlines color, width/transparency should
be different )

 Then for the calculation of the slope select Trendline in the Chart elements tab. Click
more options then click display the equation in the chart.

 While clicking the option you will get the slope and y-intercept of the graph.
 Save the graph using your ID number and Section number in the graph as well as in
the file.
 For Error bars graph Select the error bars in the chart elements tab.
