TEMPLATE 2
The illustrations compare the plan of a bookstore in 2000 with its current layout
Overall, the bookstore has changed significantly over the period to increase/ expand its sp
aciousness and make room for an added service, the café.
In 2000, fiction occupied the longest and largest section on the left of the entr
ance. Nevertheless, This Area has been divided into four smaller sections for
displaying not only this kind of book but also three different other genres, na
mely art, cooking and nonfiction.
This has resulted in larger isles and increased visual exposure, allowing shoppers to find the
ir desired items more easily. Particularly, there is no space dedicated to books on hobbies n
ow.
With a view to enhancing shoppers’ experiences, a café has been set up in the original place
of the nonfiction section. In addition, there are now several tables in the area previously
Replaced for art, cookery and hobbies books. This has enabled customers to enjoy
refreshments while reading books right in the store.
The illustrations demonstrate the transformation of a mountainous area after a
hydroelectric dam was built on a river running through it in 2010. Overall, the construction
had drastically changed the local landscape with the addition of entirely new facilities.
In 1990, the northwest side of the river was covered with wild forest that was home to rare
species of fauna and flora. There was also an ancient monument hidden inside the jungle.
On the east side, there used to be vast irrigated farmlands and a group of villages.
By 2010, however, the whole land had been cleared for the construction of a reservoir and
a dam. In the original place of the villages, a modern hotel was erected to accommodate
tourists. There was also boats on the lake for visitors to enjoy a cruise trip. The villagers had
relocated to the southern area of the dam. Numerous transmission towers (electricity
towers) had also been constructed along the downstream banks of the river.
The illustrations show the growth of a town called Frenton between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, its housing, commercial and public facilities had expanded dramatically while green
space declined significantly.
To accommodate an increased population, the original houses in the eastern wing of the
town had been replaced by blocks of flats. The residential area was also extended to the
northeast of High Street and the old playing fields across the street had also been cleared to
make way for several other blocks.
With regard to other facilities, a modern supermarket had been built to replace the
traditional shops in the southeast corner. The nearby theatre was closed and reopened as a
cinema while a hotel and a golf course were constructed on the site of the old park and
café. To the west of High Street, the green space in the southwest corner had been
converted into a techno park and a new restaurant was opened in the original place of the
bank. The hospital had also been enlarged whereas the school and the library remained
unchanged.
Overall, there was significant expansion in housing, commercial, and public facilities,
accompanied by a notable decrease in green spaces.
The illustrations compare the current layout of Hunderstone with a proposed plan for the
future. Overall, major developments involve the establishment of an industrial zone and
improvement of the transport infrastructure.
According to the proposal, the airfield in the northwest of the town will be demolished to
make way for an industrial estate. This will lead to radical changes in the road networks of
Hunderstone.
At present, the only route to reach the airfield is following the main road out of the town
centre then taking the A2 Highway. In the future, however, there will be another way to
access this site. The roadway leading to this area from the A2 will be extended to the east
and connected with the railway, making it faster for commuting and transportation of
goods and materials. In addition, a new motorway named A4 will also be constructed to the
south of the gas station, directly linking the A2 with the ring road southwest of the town
centre. This would ease the increased traffic loads on the old route. Finally, a new
roundabout will be added at the intersection/ level crossing near the gas station to keep
vehicles flow smoothly.
The two maps illustrate how an island has been developed for tourism. Overall, it has
transformed from a desert island without any man-made constructions to an easily
accessible and fully-developed holiday retreat with a range of tourist amenities.
The first map shows a barren, secluded island with a few palm trees scattered around and a
beach on one side. The island is around 250 metres long and 75 metres wide.
As can be seen in the second map, all new facilities are constructed on the island’s side that
has a beach. A wharf has been built on the little bay to welcome tourist boats. There is an
entrance road connecting the pier with the reception building which is surrounded by a
vehicle track. On either wing of this building, a ring of bungalows have been erected to
accommodate visitors. A large restaurant can be found right behind the reception area,
making it convenient for guests from both wings to access.
Apart from these principal structures, there are footpaths joining all these amenities
together. In addition, a designated area on the beach has been established for guests to
swim and relax while staying there.
The maps illustrate changes that have been made to Danvill
e park since 2000.
Overall , while park still retains the basic elements of flowers,
water and seats, it has also been modernized with new faciliti
es.
Danville was opened in 2000, a rectangular area to the south
of a river with one gate in the east and one in the west. There
was a lily pond located/ situated in the center, a statue right
behind the west gate and a playground in the southeast corn
er. On the north side of the park , there were two rose garde
ns with some seats between them. There were also seats loc
ated on the south side and near the playground.
The park has changed/ altered considerably since then. Now
there is a fountain with seats around it, occupying the central
area where the lily pond stood. The two rose gardens have b
een replaced by a tennis court in the northwest and a maze i
n the northeast with some seats nearby. Whereas, the seatin
g area between them has been converted into a riverside caf
é. On the south side, where the seats stood now there is a fit
ness area and a new rose garden.
The plans illustrate changes that were made to a museum of
natural history from 2005 to 1015.
Sport club
The plans show the present construction of a sport club and
plans for its renovation.
Overall, the club will undergo some changes, mainly related
to the billiards room, the tennis court and the parking space.
According to the plans, the western part of the club will rem
ain unchanged, including the reception, the 50- meters swim
ming pool, the changing room and the locker room. Whereas,
the billiards room in the centre will be removed to make wa
y for a gym, a sports shop, and a café shop. The current gym
on the Northside is going to be converted into a dance studi
o with smaller size . An additional changing room is planned
centre- right. The eastern section of the club will experience
the most significant changes with new football field, occupyi
ng the three tennis court and the parking space which is goin
g to be relocated underground.
