Assignment 1

Question 1

A computer that you need for animation, graphic designs and promotional material is a computer
that every part of it really does matter. To be asked to narrow down two crucial components is
quite the challenge but I have chosen that the CPU and the memory of a computer is what will
make all the difference for this specific task. The CPU is one of the first components we learn
about because it is the brain of the machine. Anything you tell your computer to do, will go
through the machine cycle and execute what you want. It also has a role for computer
performance which is important for the team needs. A good CPU will allow your computer to
run at high speeds and allow for the overall fluidity between you and the computer/software. The
second most important component for me is memory. Anything you do on your computer needs
place to perform the task. If you do not have sufficient space on your computer, it will not be a
pleasant experience. Any software the team will run on the computer will need a certain amount
of space to function. Animation, promotional videos and graphic design are very heavy uses and
take up a lot of memory. In order for the tasks to be accomplished quickly and smoothly, you’re
going to need a fair amount of memory on your computer and a good CPU.

Question 2

For my team, the CPU should be a multi-core so that it can have the ability to perform multiple
tasks without difficulty. This will allow for programs to be faster and a team member could be
doing multiple jobs at the same time. This will basically allow for efficiency among the team. A
CPU should also have a fair amount of frequency. The frequency of the CPU will determine how
quickly one task will be completed by the computer. Frequency goes hand in hand with multi
cores because more power does not mean it will help you complete tasks faster. The computer
needs to balance the power for it to be efficient thus the user being efficient. The main Memory
specifications that I would consider is simply the capacity. I recommend 16GB for what the
team is trying to do. Memory is a short term place where everything will be processed so you do
not need too much. The reason I say 16GB is because multiple tasks are going to be performing
at the same time and to have a slow a computer would be very tiresome to deal with. Overall,
these are the specifications I would pay close attention to while looking for a computer.
