4.4 Modem SW update

Recommendation:
If you operate a redundant base station, you should set the RF-EPG to
“forced”. This prevents from a switch over during the upgrade. After the
upgrade you must switch back to automatic mode.

Make sure all Links are up

4.7 Configuration of new Features

4.7.1 Set the Sector-ID
To enable frequency planing with xml control files you have to set the
Sector-ID. If the planing tool Caliph++ is not used you can set the Sector-
ID to "_DEFAULT_". If the planing tool Caliph++ is used use the Sector-
ID from the planing group. In this case you should have a special
Download-File file for each Sector.

Set the Sector-ID

· In the menu Files ¯ Select Control File select following control file
SetSectorRd_DEFAULT_xml4K.ctl
from the directory:
/usr/nsue/download.Qd2/Marconi/MDMS/Radio-
Core/V4_30/Generic/RASCO/V04_30/
· If the Sector-ID should be settled to Caliph++ planed value instead
of “_DEFAULT_”
select the control file for this sector from the planing group.
· Press Ok and Download

4.7.2 Check the Sector-ID:

· Open RBS ¯ Configuration ¯ Module ¯ Equipping
· Check on RASCO (slot 222 and 223)
Diagnostics à Show Text with right mouse button
· The Sector-ID should be “_DEFAULT_” or the specific value.

4.7.3 AutoCdnDedect
If a Multiplexer MSV5-D with ANS-PMP Software 4.2 or higher connected
to the RBS you can use this new feature to find failures in the wiring
between MSV5 and RBS.
If the NU-Link is created on a TU-2M Port of the MSV5 and the Link is up,
the RASCO shows the MSV5-ID and the SISA Port number.
This feature is needed for the operation of a RNU8M-IP

To activate this feature you have to download a special control file to the
sector:
Open the SW-DOWNLOAD window
· In menu Files ¯ Select Control File select the following control file
SystemProperty_MuxConfDetectOn_xml4K.ctl
from the directory:
/usr/nsue/download.Qd2/Marconi/MDMS/Radio-
Core/V4_30/Generic/RASCO/V04_30/

Press OK and Download

Check this feature:
· Open RBS ¯ Configuration ¯ Module ¯ Equipping
· Check on RASCO (slot 222 and 223)
Diagnostics à Show Text with right mouse button
· The AutoCdnDedect should be On.

Chapter 5
Appendix

5.1 Problems of download via MSV5-SISA-

Connection
· If the Service-on-Access is connected via a MSV5 or MS1/4 – Q3p -
SISA-bus there are possible problems with the software download to
the RASCO.
· Make sure only one DownloadQd2 window of all SOA-Workstations
is open for this SISA-Bus
· Download the software sequentially into this DownloadQd2 window.
· Use the download control files with 1Kbyte Packet-size. You
recognise this control files from the 1K in the filename instead of 4K.
· If you have still problems during downloads make a reset on the
PRM / PRM-M Module (in CDN Window open SISA O –Module
Equipping, Select PRM Module – RESET)

5.2 Plug and Play Feature of BST Modems (only

CS/RCS)
This new Feature makes a fixed relation between Base-Station-Modem
Slot and Modem Index.
· This is normally activated with the upgrade to MDMS V4.2 SR1.
· With this Feature active, you can exchange a Base-Station-Modem
without making any entries in SECO or SOA.
· For new sectors, this feature is normally enabled during the
commissioning (SystemProperty_PlugPlayOn is part of the default
control file for the commissioning)

Note: RBSS has this feature always active.

RCS /CS can use this feature only if:
The Modem-Index is automatically organised by Shelf/Slot.
The Modem-Index numbering starts with 1.
The Can-Bus wiring of extension-shelves are correct.
RASCO runs with SW 4.21 or higher.
During a normal upgrade Plug’n’Play is disabled by default.

Appendix Edition a/10.2002

5.2.1 Enable the Plug and Play Feature

Attention: It is Mandatory to save the MIB before Downloading the Plug’n’Play

Configuration File.
If the conditions for plug and play in RCS-sectors are not fulfilled, the link
configuration can be destroyed. Then you have to disable the plug and
play (see item 6.2.2) feature and to recover the link configuration with a
download of the MIB-Data.

To enable the plug and play feature download the PlugPlayOn file.
· In menu Files ¯ Select Control File select the following control file
SystemProperty_PlugPlayOn_xml4K.ctl
from the directory:
/usr/nsue/download.Qd2/Marconi/MDMS/Radio-Core/V4_30/
Generic/RASCO/V04_30/
· Press OK and Download
· After Download press the Reset NE button.

5.2.2 Disable the Plug and Play Feature

To disable the plug and play feature download the PlugPlayOFF file.

· In menu Files ¯ Select Control File select the following control file
SystemProperty_PlugPlayOff_xml4K.ctl
from the directory:
/usr/nsue/download.Qd2/Marconi/MDMS/Radio-Core/V4_30/
Generic/RASCO/V04_30/
· Press OK and Download
· After Download press Reset NE button.
· In RBS-Window à Configuration à Build in functions à MIB-
Transfer download the saved MIB to the Network Element
