Problem 1
The angle between the X and x axes is 25-deg. Find the angular displacement of link 4 when link 2
rotates clockwise with an angular velocity ω2=15 rad/s from the position shown (+37 deg) to
horizontal X-axis (0 deg).
Find ω4, VA and VB in the local coordinate system if.
Take L2 = 116 mm, L3 = 108 mm, L4 = 110 mm and L1= 174 mm.

Problem 2
For the compressor shown in the following figure, find the position of the piston with respect to O2.
Also find the linear velocity of the piston as the crank rotates clockwise at constant rate of 120 rad/s.
Put clearly the vector loop and the global coordinate system. Al dimensions are in inches.

Problem 3
Consider the following drag link slider crank system. Take the global coordinate system 𝑂2𝑋𝑌 as
shown on the following figure. Given: 𝑂2𝐴 = 5, 𝐴𝐵 = 5, 𝐶𝐷 = 15, 𝐵𝐶 = 8, 𝑂2𝑂4 = 2.5, 𝑂4𝐵 = 6 𝑎𝑛𝑑
𝑂4𝐶 = 6.

For 𝜃2 = 220 °:
a. Find the angular displacements 𝜃3 and 𝜃4 of 𝐴𝐵 and 𝑂4𝐵.
b. ̂
Deduce the angular displacement 𝜃5 of 𝑂4𝐶, such that B𝑂 4 C = 83.62°.
c. Using 𝜃5, find the angular displacement 𝜃6 of link 𝐷C, and the linear displacement 𝑂4D.
d. For 𝜔2 = 1 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠, find the angular velocities 𝜔3 and 𝜔4 of 𝐴𝐵 and 𝑂4𝐵, respectively.
e. Find the velocity vectors 𝑉𝐴, 𝑉𝐵𝐴 and 𝑉𝐵 and determine their magnitudes and directions.
f. Deduce the angular velocity 𝜔6 of 𝐶𝐷 and the linear velocity VD of the slider block D.

Problem 4
For the quick-return mechanism shown below, the rod DC rotates with a constant angular velocity
of 1 rad/s CCW. For the position shown find:
a) the position of the sliding block C with respect to A.
b) the angular velocity of member AB and the velocity of sliding of block C within the member
AB.
c) the velocity of the node B.

Dimensions are in inches.
