For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the (Technical and Vocational Education Grade 8) Self-Learning

Module on (Requirements for Internet Search)!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.

LESSON

Requirements for Internet Search

The internet is a worldwide communication system that links thousands of
different networks together. It allows information shares between two or more
computers on the network. As a consequence, the internet helps in the transmission
of messages via mail, chat, video & audio conference, and so on. It has now become
mandatory for day-to-day activities: payment of bills, online shopping, and browsing,
tutoring, working, contact, etc.
The Web, also defined as the World Wide Web (WWW), is simply a series of
endless pages of the information shown on the Internet. It is an information-sharing
platform that is rising at an unprecedented pace.
Web Browser
The web browser is a software program for viewing information on the World
Wide Web. When a user wants to access from a specific web site, the web browser
can download the appropriate information from a web server and then show the page
on the user's screen.
Example of Web Browsers:
a. Google Chrome - is free software and cross-platform web browser produced
by Google.
b. Mozilla Firefox - is free software and open-source web browser introduced
by Mozilla Corporation
c. Opera - is a free web browser software developed by Opera Software for
operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, and
Linux.
d. Safari - An interactive web browser created by Apple.
e. Microsoft Edge - is a built-in and Cross-Platform web browser in windows
OS created by Microsoft.
Search Engine
A search engine allows the user to find useful information on the web. It is
related to the library in an online environment.

Finding useful Information with a Search Engine

You can use a lot of different search engines, but some of the more common
ones like Google, Yahoo! Bing, and. You may need to navigate to a search engine in
your web browser to conduct a search, type one or more keywords-also known as
search terms-then press Enter on your keyboard.
1. Enter the web
address
"www.google.com" in
the address bar at
the top of your
opened browser.
Then press Enter
again On the
Keyboard.
2. Type a term or
phrase that defines
the details you're
searching for (the
fewer phrases, the
better — no need to
use full sentences!).
URL
It is referred to as Web Addresses and stands for Universal Resource Locator.
It serves as the reference of information to a web resource that states the location on
a computer system network.
Layout of URL
Example: “http://www.dn.com/f-n/w-p-f-n.htm”
a. http:// - The first element of the URL shows the URL protocol. There are
various types of protocols, but we're going to make things short and relate to
the HyperText Transfer Protocol.
b. www.dn.com – This part shows the Domain Name or what we called the
admin, host, or server ID.
c. /f-n/ - The Folder Name demonstrates which the web page referenced in the
"filed" folder on the cloud server.
d. w-p-f-n - The File Name is part of a URL that is the official title of the web page
file.
e. .htm - The ".htm" at the end shows that this is a static web page. File formats
can have various extensions (the ".htm" part) or, relying on how the webserver
is set it up, may end up with a "/" or nothing.
Link
The link is also known as a hyperlink. It has highlighted and underlined word,
phrase, or image on a web page that links to another or the same page. This how you
project the link. When you slide the mouse over the words, phrase, or pictures and
your mouse pointer will become a hand with a pointing finger.
Bookmark
The bookmark is a saved shortcut that brings a particular webpage to your
browser. It holds the corresponding page's title, URL, and a contact form. Save
bookmarks enable easy access to your favorite Web sites.
