Introduction and Problem Statement

1.1 Introduction

A Daily Expense Tracker is a one kind of digital diary that help to keep an eye on all of our
money related transition and also provides all financial activities report daily, weekly, monthly
and yearly. User gets notification to record expenses and incomes that are help to tracking
system of the application. All information is saved in offline mode so user can easily access
any time and any palaces. User interface of the Daily Expense Tracker is very simple and
attractive so it is easy to understand and the best way to record our financial data.

1.2 Motivation

The motivation to work in this project is actually our real-life experience. As a user We face
many difficulties in our daily file. In our daily life money is the most important portion and
without we cannot last one day in the earth but if we keep on track all financial data then we
can be overcome this problem. Most of the people cannot track their expense and income one
way the face in money crisis and depression. This situation motivates us to make an android
app to tracking all financial activities. Using the Daily Expense Tracker user can be tracking
expense day to day and making life tension free.

1.3 Problem Statement

Every earning people are mostly obsessed at the end of the month as the they cannot remember
where all of their money have gone when they have spent and ultimately have to sustain in
little money minimizing their essential needs. There is no as such complete solution present
easily or we should say free of cost which enables a person to keep a track of its daily
expenditure easily and notify them if they are going to have money shortage. To do so a person
has to keep a log in a diary or in a computer, also all the calculations needs to be done by the
user which may sometimes results in errors leading to losses. Due to lack of a complete tracking
system, there is a constant overload to rely on the daily entry of the expenditure and total
estimation till the end of the month.
Chapter 2

Background/ Literature Survey

In the present times, research work is going on in context of keeping a track on our expenses.
In this chapter some of the major existing work in these areas has been reviewed.

2.1 Background

Expense tracker is a refined system which allows user to efficiently manage his/her expenses
with ease. Tracking expenses daily can really help to us save lot of money. Once we start off
by tracking our expenses each day, we will be able to get a better idea where you are spending
your money, so you stay in control and achieve your goal. It will be able to generate your
expense and saving report as time duration you selected. There will be a reminder that will help
to save money for your pre-defined expenses.

2.2 Literature Survey

Tracking daily expense is not so innovative. Many traditional and technological approach is
found to track our expenses and budget with their own functionality. From decades ago and
today we have been writing our expenditure in a register to calculate the profit or saving. Not
only this many desktop and mobile applications has been developed for this purpose. Quicken
and Microsoft money were the first desktop applications was developed decades ago but was
not so familiar with the users. Personal capital and dollar bird application were used to visualize
the expenses in chart or graphs with the calendar system. QuickBooks were the application for
the small business holder to wrap up their whole business. YNAB and Penny were the latest
application which were embedded with AI and applicable for importing expenses
automatically. However, Mint was the one which was widely used and trusted.

Explaining about the latest application built in this category, YNAB is an expense tracker that
gives the automatic tracking of our expense through our bank account or credit cards. We can
also define expenses that may take place in future so that we do not go out of bound. This
application is mobile friendly and is emerging since 2013. This application is embedded with
AI to define and manage our daily expenses.
In this application user has to create an account by registering themselves followed by login.
After that users can efficiently keep a track of their expenses by daily. Users can add new
categories and expenses date wise . This application allows users to track their expenses
category wise as well as date wise. User can also view total amount spend in a particular month.
Comparison of existing similar application is shown below:

We looked through the Google play store and found some apps that are similar to our
application but there are some features missing which this type of application need to have. So
we combined all the features in our app and added some new features and make it useful with
better UI. Some related works are mentioned below with a short detail:

Objectives

The objectives of the proposed work are as follows:

a) To keep track of daily expenses and budgeting;

b) To save money for pre-defined expenses which will help planning on your future
investments
c) User can easily view past expenses
d) User can easily update or delete records
e) Add expense and income
f) View total amount spent in last 30 days

Possible Approach/ Algorithms

5.1 APPROACH USED

Having a proper track to our expenses helps us to organize our finance which is actually a very
difficult task. Looking through our expenses at regular interval allow us to review our spending
habit. Writing records of our expense in paper is a traditional way. In the world driven by
technology, it is not a right measure or choice indeed. It is difficult to relate our present
expenses with past when data need to be reviewed and it is even not secure.
So with this particular application Expense Tracker, we have tried to feature several concepts
that the user can fully track all of his/her expense as compared to present system in practice.
Expense Tracker is a technology driven approach where user have to log in to track their
spending and earnings.

5.2 Design

1. Dashboard panel

The system shall authenticate the user and then display panel based on the particular
identified user.

2. Add

The system shall allow the user to add expense details based on the user’s need to track the
type of expenses.

3. Expense planner

The system should graphically represent the current month figure based current month
expenses in form of a table.

4. View Expense

User can view expenses category wise or date wise.

5. Calendar

The system shall allow users to add the date to their expenses

6. Add Category
The system shall allow users to add categories of their expenses

7. Delete

User can delete any category.
