Write a short evaluation on how interaction happens using each media

platforms, focusing on the following scenarios.

1. Social media (as a way of posting news)

Social media platforms enable users to connect with news information in a variety of ways,
including like, sharing, commenting, and reposting. This interaction promotes engagement
by allowing users to express their thoughts, start debates, and share news with their network.
The disadvantage is that the degree of involvement can occasionally contribute to the spread
of disinformation, since users may disseminate news without checking its legitimacy.

2. Online game (as a form of posting news)

Online games are not often used as direct means for spreading news. Some games, on the
other hand, may have chat capabilities or forums where players may debate and exchange
news-related issues. While this interaction can build a feeling of community and involvement,
it may not be the most accurate or thorough source of news because it relies on
player-initiated debates rather than professional journalism.

3. Online shopping (as a means of business transactions)

Interaction in online shopping platforms primarily occurs through user interfaces that facilitate
browsing, selection, and purchase of products. Users can engage by providing ratings, reviews,
and feedback, which helps other shoppers make informed decisions. Customer support
features enable direct interaction with sellers, addressing inquiries or resolving issues. This
interaction enhances the shopping experience and builds trust, facilitating business
transactions.

4. Online classes (as a tool of teaching-learning process)

1
Online classes leverage interactive tools and platforms to facilitate the teaching-learning
process. Students can engage with instructors and peers through live chats, discussion boards,
video conferencing, and virtual classrooms. Interactive features like polls, quizzes, and
collaborative projects encourage active participation, feedback, and discussion, fostering an
interactive learning environment.

5. Online chatting (as platform of socialization)

Online chatting services provide a virtual environment for socialising by allowing users to
communicate via text, audio, or video messaging. Users may converse one-on-one or in
groups, share media assets, and join communities based on common interests. Online chatting
systems allow for real-time contact, facilitating connections, friendships, and conversations; yet,
it is critical to exercise caution and be mindful of privacy and security problems.

What I Have Learned

Activity 1: Answer the following concisely.

1. Define manipulative media.

Manipulative media refers to the use of physical or digital tools, materials, or devices
in education or communication to engage learners or users visually and physically.
It involves hands-on learning experiences that enhance understanding and interaction
with the subject matter.

2. The things I learned about manipulative media are…

The things I learned about manipulative media are its advantages, such as hands-on
learning, increased confidence and motivation, opportunities for collaboration, multisensory
engagement, and variation in learning. I also learned about different types of manipulative
media, including traditional (physical) manipulatives and virtual/digital manipulatives.
Additionally, I learned that while manipulative media offers benefits, there are also
disadvantages, such as limited availability, potential disinterest in discussion-type learning, cost
implications, distractions in the case of digital manipulatives, and dependence on these tools.

3. Interactivity in social media can be manifested in….

Interactivity in social media can be manifested through various features and actions,
including commenting on posts, liking or reacting to content, posting or sharing updates,
engaging in group chats or discussions, participating in polls or surveys, following or connecting
with other users, and utilizing translation or language tools. Social media platforms provide
opportunities for users to actively engage with the content and interact with others, facilitating
communication, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas.

Additional Activities
Write a short reflection about your learnings in this module, and state how it
might have helped you become more media-literate.

After going through the module on Manipulative Media and Information, I have gained a

deeper understanding of the various forms of interactive media and their impact on communication

and user engagement. I have learned that interactive media refers to communication methods

where the program's outputs depend on the user's inputs, creating a dynamic and engaging

experience. This can be seen in various platforms such as interactive websites, mobile apps, video

games, virtual reality, and social media.

Moreover, the module introduced the concept of manipulative media, which involves the

use of physical or digital tools to engage learners visually and physically in the learning process.

Traditional manipulative media utilizes hands-on materials like puzzles and blocks, while virtual and

digital manipulative media leverage technology to enhance learning experiences.

Studying this module has enhanced my media literacy by providing me with a broader

perspective on the role of media in information dissemination and communication. I now have a

better understanding of the different types of interactive media platforms and their purposes, which

allows me to critically analyze and evaluate the content and messages conveyed through these

platforms. Additionally, the knowledge of manipulative media has expanded my awareness of

innovative teaching methods that utilize technology to create engaging and interactive learning

environments. Overall, this module has equipped me with valuable insights into the evolving

landscape of media and its impact on society.
