Resume of Dr. Md.

Shadekul Alam, Director (Current Charge), BMD

Dr. Md. Shadekul Alam is the Director (Current Charge) of Bangladesh Meteorological
Department (BMD). He joined as Director (Current Charge) on 10 September 2024. Dr. Alam
has long been serving in different sections of BMD.

Dr. Alam was born in an aristocratic Muslim family on 22 November 1965 in the district of
Rajbari. He secured B.Sc (Hons) in Physics and M.Sc in Physics from Jahangirnagar University,
and he has also received PhD on Atmospheric Physics from Jahangirnagar University.

Prior to his appointment as Director (Current Charge), he had been Deputy Director of the
Meteorological Training Institute of BMD from 08 January 2024 to 19 August 2024 and he
joined BMD in 1992 after qualifying competitive examination conducted by Bangladesh Public
Service Commission (BPSC).

Dr. Alam is mainly interested in the field of Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) system. He
has also extensive research experiences in the different fields of Meteorology including cyclone
forecasting, thunderstorm, storm surge, monsoon systems, seasonal, medium range and long-
range forecasting and he is highly skilled on FORTRAN, Python, C, Linux etc.

Dr. Alam has represented Bangladesh Government in many international forums. He had
opportunities to take part in many seminars, symposiums, workshops and training programs in
and abroad. He has visited different countries of the world including Malaysia, South Korea,
China, Japan, Nepal, France, Norway, Thailand, India and Singapore.
