DECIMALS

Decimals are convenient forms of expressing


fractions without a numerator or denominator
BASE TEN
When decimals are expressed as fractions their
denominators are powers of 10,

such as 10, 100, 1000 etc

The decimal point is positioned so that the digit
immediately to its left is the unit of ones position
TYPES OF DECIMALS

Decimals that do not go on forever
E.g. 0.5 , 0.76, 0.000004

Goes on forever but the numbers do not repeat


2) Recurring
themselves.

E.g pi = 3.1415926535897932
Goes on forever and ever but some digits
repeat
E.g. 0.3333 , 0.45454545
ADDING & SUBTRACTING DECIMALS

Find the sum of 12.875 + 0.34


Adding and
subtracting decimals
is easy!
Just add & subtract
normally from the
right to left placing
the decimal point in
the SAME position.
MULTIPLYING DECIMALS
Find the product of 0.67 and 0.2
Multiplying decimals
is super easy!
1) Remove decimal
points

2) Multiply normally

3)Place decimal point
