    Aluminum broadly classified in to two categories. 1. Wrought alloys 2.

    Cast alloys

    Wrought alloys: Wrought alloys are those that are mechanically worked into their final shapes

    1xxx Series (Pure Aluminum):

     Main Alloying Element: 99% or higher aluminum.

     Properties: Excellent corrosion resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low
    strength.

     Examples: 1100, 1050.

    2xxx Series (Aluminum-Copper Alloys):

     Main Alloying Element: Copper.

     Properties: High strength, good machinability, less corrosion resistance.

     Examples: 2024, 2014.

    3xxx Series (Aluminum-Manganese Alloys):

     Main Alloying Element: Manganese.

     Properties: Good workability, moderate strength, good corrosion resistance.

     Examples: 3003, 3105.

    4xxx Series (Aluminum-Silicon Alloys):

     Main Alloying Element: Silicon.

     Properties: Lower melting point, good wear resistance, often used in welding wire and
    brazing applications.

     Examples: 4032, 4043.

    5xxx Series (Aluminum-Magnesium Alloys):

     Main Alloying Element: Magnesium.

     Properties: High strength, good corrosion resistance, good weldability.

     Examples: 5052, 5083.

    6xxx Series (Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon Alloys):

     Main Alloying Elements: Magnesium and Silicon.

     Properties: Good formability, medium strength, good corrosion resistance, heat-treatable.

     Examples: 6061, 6063.

    7xxx Series (Aluminum-Zinc Alloys):

     Main Alloying Elements: Zinc, with smaller amounts of magnesium and copper.

     Properties: High strength, heat-treatable, used in aerospace applications.

     Examples: 7075, 7050.


    8xxx Series (Miscellaneous Alloys):

     Main Alloying Elements: Includes elements such as lithium or others not covered by the 1xxx
    to 7xxx series.

     Properties: Varies widely depending on the specific alloy.

     Examples: 8006, 8090.

    Cast alloys: Casting alloys are typically melted and poured into molds to create parts.
