COLLEGE OF NURSING
AY 2022 – 2023

INTRODUCTION

Family is an essential part of the human experience, serving as the fundamental support

system that defines our identities and influences our behaviors. It is the initial social context in

which people learn to manage relationships, improve their communication skills, and understand

cultural standards. Families provide a distinct blend of love, protection, and accountability,

promoting emotional growth and resilience in their members.

Community health nursing is specialized area that focuses on the overall health of

communities rather than simply individuals. This role requires nurses to undertake assessments

to identify health needs, resources, and obstacles in a community. They create and implement

specialized health programs that address concerns such as immunization, chronic illness

management, maternity and child health, and mental health care.Family health nursing

encompasses a holistic approach that evaluates the physical, emotional, and social health of

families. Nurses in this field assess family structures, communication patterns, and health

behaviors to identify potential risks and resources.

Family health nursing takes a holistic approach to assessing families' physical, emotional,

and social well-being. Nurses in this sector examine family structures, communication patterns,

and health behaviors to identify potential hazards and resources. They teach illness prevention,

chronic condition management, and family-specific health promotion practices. This

HISTORY OF BRGY. BARRA ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ

During the Spanish regime, a Spanish galleon accidentally landed in an area known as

Barra, leading to the discovery of this place. The crew, captivated by the land’s beauty, decided

to stay and colonize it. They built a "balwarte" for protection and to store their treasures.

The arrival of the galleon sparked curiosity among the local people. They gathered to watch

these newcomers, intrigued by their colorful clothing and customs. Over time, the crew and the

locals interacted, sharing knowledge and trade, and the galleon became a part of everyday life.

After many years, the crew wanted to return to Spain, but they faced an unfortunate

problem: the ship could not float due to the shallow water. Despite their attempts to free it, the

galleon remained stuck, a reminder of their dreams and adventures.

This is why the area is called "barra," derived from the term "nabarra," meaning stranded.

Today, the galleon still sits here, symbolizing our rich history and the connections between

cultures, inviting us to remember the stories that have shaped our community.

FAMILY HISTORY

O. Lorenzo, who is 32 years old, resides in Punta Barra, Roxas City, Capiz. She is one of

the daughters of Mr. E. Lorenzo, who has been a resident of Punta Barra for 80 years.

Unfortunately, her mother, L. Lorenzo, passed away at the age of 54 due to complications related

to diabetes and hypertension.

Her educational background includes completing only up to the 3rd year of high school in

2011 at Tanque National High School due to financial constraints. Subsequently, seven years

later, she successfully finished a Tesda Program in Cookery, a six-month NCII course. At the age

of 21, she entered into a relationship with her first boyfriend, with whom she had her first child,

J.E.L. However, their relationship turned sour due to his abusive behavior, leading to their

separation shortly after the birth of their child.

In 2021, she met her second boyfriend on Facebook, who was originally from Palawan. A

year later, she gave birth to her second child, L.L Jr., and experienced the premature delivery

during her third trimester of pregnancy in 2021. In year 2024, she had her third child through

caesarean delivery. Presently, her third child is two months old. She has been living with her

partner, who works as a fisherman, for the past three years

Barangay Barra’s sanitary situation is generally poor. Garbage and feces fill the streets

and sea. The environment is polluted and water is stagnant in some places. Animals such as

ducks, chickens, and dogs are seen wandering around.

The houses are not congested and the majority are made of sturdy materials. Moreover,

breeding sites of mosquitoes, rodents, and other insects are present everywhere. There is a

designated area for recreational activities such as a basketball court and chapel for spiritual

activities, and these are all located in Punta Barra Purok 3

The community has a Barangay Health Center which is also located near the Brgy. Hall,

and is open on weekdays to cater the needs of the community. All in all, the family’s house is a

15 – 20 minute walk from these buildings.
