ABSTRACT

This project focused on the design, fabrication and testing of a cowpea thresher using locally
available materials.
The thresher was designed to be simple, cost-effective and easy to operate. The design
process involved the selection of suitable materials, the dimensions of the machine
components, fabrication and the assembly of the components.
The thresher was tested for its performance in terms of capacity, threshing efficiency and
losses. The result showed that the thresher had a capacity of 16.40 kg/hr with threshing speed
830.67rpm and 97% cleaning efficiency, 5.1% losses, 99.1% threshing efficiency .the project
concluded that the fabricated cowpea thresher was efficient and cost-effective and that it
affordable for rural dwellers.
