1. (a) The opposite of an increase in weight is a decrease in weight.

(b) The opposite of 30 km north is 30 km south.

(c) The opposite of 80 m east is 80 m west.

(d) The opposite of a loss of Rs 700 is a gain of Rs 700.

(e) The opposite of 100 m above sea level is 100 m below sea level.

2. (a) True, as (-8 > -10).

(b) False. (-50 is greater than -100). Hence, -100 lies to the left of -50 on the number
line.

(c) False. -1 is the greater negative integer.

(d) False. -26 is smaller than -25.

3. (a) (-8) + 8 = 0

(b) 13 + (-13) = 0

(c) 12 + (-12) = 0

(d) (-4) + (-8) = -12

(e) 5 – 15 = -10

4. There are 24 hours in a day

We have 8 hours

Hence, required fraction is 8 / 24


5. Total number of dresses Kanchan has to dye = 30 dresses

Number of dresses she has finished = 20 dresses

∴ Required Fraction = 20 / 30 = 2 / 3

6. (a) 48 / 60 = (12 × 4) / (12 × 5)

=4/5

(b) 150 / 60 = (30 × 5) / (30 × 2)

=5/2

(c) 84 / 98 = (14 × 6) / (14 × 7)

=6/7

7. (a) 530 > 503

Hence, 503 is on the left side of 530 on the number line.

(b) 370 > 307

Hence, 307 is on the left side of 370 on the number line.

(c) 98765 > 56789

Hence, 56789 is on the left side of 98765 on the number line.

(d) 9830415 < 10023001

Hence, 9830415 is on the left side of 10023001 on the number line

8. (a) Given 837 + 208 + 363

= (837 + 363) + 208

= 1200 + 208
= 1408

(b) Given 1962 + 453 + 1538 + 647

= (1962 + 1538) + (453 + 647)

= 3500 + 1100

= 4600

9. Milk quantity supplied in the morning = 32 litres

Milk quantity supplied in the evening = 68 litres

Cost of milk per litre = ₹ 45

Total cost of milk per day = 45 × (32 + 68)

= 45 × 100

= ₹ 4500

Hence, the money due to the vendor per day is ₹ 4500
