Chapter 1 1 A book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraam. 2 Abraam beget Isaac, and Isaac beget Jacob, and Jacob beget Judas and his brethren, 3 and Judas beget Phares and Zara from Thamar, and Phares beget Hesrom, and Hesrom beget Aram, 4 and Aram beget Aminandab, and Aminadab beget Naasson, and Naasson beget Salmon, 5 and Salmon beget Booz from Rachab, and Booz beget Obed from Ruth, and Obed beget Jesse, 6 and Jesse beget David the king. And David beget Solomon from the wife of Urias, 7 and Solomon beget Roboam, and Roboam beget Abia, and Abia beget Asa, 8 and Asa beget Josaphat, and Josaphat beget Joram, and Joram beget Ozias, 9 and Ozias beget Joatham, and Joatham beget Achaz, and Achaz beget Hezekias, 10 and Hezekias beget Manasses, and Manasses beget Amon, and Amon beget Josias, 11 and Josias beget Jechonias and his brethren at the time of the Babylonian captivity. 12 And after the Babylonian captivity, Jechonias beget Salathiel, and Salathiel beget Zorobabel, 13 and Zorobabel beget Abiud, and Abiud beget Eliakim, and Eliakim beget Azor, 14 and Azor beget Sadoc, and Sadoc beget Achim, and Achim beget Eliud, 15 and Eliud beget Eleazar, and Eleazar beget Matthan, and Matthan beget Jacob, 16 and Jacob beget Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus, the one acalled Christ. 17 Therefore all the generations from Abraam to David are fourteen generations, and from David to the Babylonian captivity are fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian captivity to the Christ are fourteen generations. 18 And the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: while his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, but before they b lived

David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, 7Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam was the father of Abijah, Abijah was the father of Asa, 8Asa was the father of Jehosaphat, Jehosaphat was the father of Jehoram, Jehoram was the father of Uzziah, 9Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham was the father of Ahaz, Ahaz was the father of Hezekiah, 10Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh was the father of Amon, Amon was the father of Josiah, 11and Josiah was the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the Babylonian captivity. 12 After the Babylonian captivity, Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel was the father of Zerubbabel, 13Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud, Abiud was the father of Eliakim, Eliakim was the father of Azor, 14Azor was the father of Sadoc, Sadoc was the father of Achim, Achim was the father of Eliud, 15Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar was the father of Matthan, Matthan was the father of Jacob, 16and Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus, the one who is called the Christ. 17Thus all the generations from Abraham to David

together, she was found to be a pregnant from the Holy Spirit. 19 But her husband Joseph, being a just man, and not wanting to b make an example of her, cdecided to ddivorce her secretly. 20 But while pondering these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take your wife Mary, for that which is in her is born of the Holy Spirit; 21 and she will deliver a son, and you will call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. 22 And all this happened in order to fulfill the word of the prophet, saying: Behold, the virgin will become pregnant and deliver a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel, which is e translated, God is with us. 24 And rising from sleep, Joseph did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and he took his wife, and he did not know her until the time when she delivered her son, the firstborn, and he called his name Jesus.

An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying: Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take your wife Mary, for that which is in her is born of the Holy Spirit. 21She will deliver a son, and you will call his name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. 22All of this happened in order to fulfill the word of the prophet saying, Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bring forth a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel, which is translated God is with us. 24Rising from sleep, Joseph did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and received his wife, and he did not sleep with her until she delivered her firstborn son, and he called his name Jesus.
