SOLUTION:-
GIVEN DATA
SIMPLY SUPPORTED BEAM
UDL W 12 KN/m
LENGTH L 20 m
WIDTH OF THE BEAM b 5 cm
DEPTH OF THE BEAM D 20 cm
CROSS SECTION OF THE BEAM RECTANGULAR
MATERIAL OF THE BEAM STEEL
TO FIND
MAXIMUM TENSILE STRESS
MAXIMUM SHEAR STRESS
MAXIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRESS
FORMULA USED
Where,
M = Bending moment
I = Area moment of inertia of the cross section about neutral axis
Y=
E = Young's Modulus of Elasticity
R = Radius of Curvature
Taking Y at maximum distance from neutral axis we can get the bending stress.
These bending stresses will give maximum tensile and compressive stress below
and above neutral axis or vice versa.
PROCEDURE
The shear force and the bending moment of the beam at various sections
are calculated.
Using the above mentioned formula the corresponding stress values are
calculated at every point on the beam.
Using the maximum function in the excel the corresponding values of
maximum tensile stress and maximum shear stress is calculated & using
minimum function in excel the value of maximum compressive stress is
obtained.
