TYPES OF CABLE AND THEIR USES

COMPUTER POWER CORD

A power cord consists of cable with a country-specific plug (molded or
hand-wired) on one end and exposed conductor wires, terminated
conductors, or blunt/flush cut conductors on the other end. A power cord is
used to connect the equipment directly to the power mains.

HDMI (HIGH DEFINITION MULTIMEDIA INTERFACE)

is a specification that combines video and audio into
a single digital interface for use with digital versatile
disc (DVD) players, digital television (DTV) players,
set-top boxes, and other audiovisual devices.

PARALLEL CABLE
A series of metal wires that enable multiple bits of data to
be transferred simultaneously. Parallel cables have mostly given
way to serial cables, where data is transferred one bit after another.

SERIAL CABLE
A serial cable is a cable used to transfer information between two devices using a serial
communication protocol. The form of connectors depends on the particular serial port used.
A cable wired for connecting two DTEs directly is known as a null modem cable.

FireWire
also called IEEE 1394 or i. LINK, high-speed computer data-transfer interface
that was used to connect personal computers, audio
and video devices, and other professional and consumer electronics.

A VGA (VIDEO GRAPHICS ARRAY)

connector was created for use with many types of devices that had graphics cards
. First used in the 1980s, it was common to see VGA connectors on televisions,
laptops, computer monitors, projectors, and other devices
DVI (DIGITAL VISUAL INTERFACE)
is a digital video interface
developed by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG).
It is able to support both digital and analogue video signals
over a single DVI cable and is commonly
found on computers, LCD monitors, projectors and
other digital display equipment.

THE PS/2 (PERSONAL SYSTEM/2)

port, also referred to as
the mouse port or keyboard port, was developed by IBM.
It is used to connect a computer mouse or keyboard to an
IBM compatible computer. The PS/2 port is a mini
DIN plug containing six pins and is still sometimes
found on all IBM compatible computers

DISPLAY PORT
is an interface for digital displays, particularly computer monitors. It was
developed by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) as a
high-performance replacement for other display modes such as VGA
(Video Graphics Array) and DVI (Digital Visual Interface).

ETHERNET CABLE
carries the broadband signals between your modem, router, computer
and other wired internet-capable devicqes. Cat 5e and Cat 6e (or higher)
Ethernet cables are recommended for higher speeds. This designation is
often stamped on the wire casing, along with other specifications.

USB CABLE

The term USB stands for "Universal Serial Bus". USB cable assemblies
are some of the most popular cable types available, used mostly to
connect computers to peripheral devices such as cameras,
camcorders, printers, scanners, and more. Devices manufactured to
the current USB Revision 3.0 specification qare backward compatible
with version 1.1.
TELEPHONE CABLE
The term telephone cable is used to describe a range of internal, external and
internal/external cables that are manufactured for the interconnection of
telephone equipment. In some cases, telephone cables may also be utilised
for additional applications.

3.5MM AUDIO CABLE

The 3.5mm stereo cables are used to connect a variety of audio devices such
as MP3 players, CD players, DVD players, and TVs to multimedia receivers
including headphones and earphones. The various combinations include one
male 3.5mm connector a choice of RCS connectors – two or three, male or
female.

FIBER-OPTIC CABLE
A fiber-optic cable contains anywhere from a few to hundreds of optical
fibers within a plastic casing. Also known as optic cables or optical fiber
cables, they transfer data signals in the form of light and travel
hundreds of miles significantly faster than those used in traditional
electrical cables.

LIGHTNING CABLE
is Apple's proprietary cable that it uses for many of its own tech products –
including for iPhones, some iPads, AirPods, and the iPod Touch. They can be
used to charge up your devices if connected to a power source, or they can
be used for data transfer when connected to a laptop, for instance.

THUNDERBOLT/USB-C
The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter lets you connect
Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices — such as external hard drives and
Thunderbolt docks — to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) / USB 4 ports on
your Mac.
