Definition

 A global network that provides information and communication facilities, consisting of


interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.

History of Internet

 1969: Evolved from ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) to connect
computers in U.S. universities and defense systems.

 1990s: Integration of ARPANET, NSFnet (National Science Foundation Network), and other
networks formed what we now know as the internet.

World Wide Web

 A service of the internet used to distribute documents across the web using protocols like
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

 HTML: Describes content structure on web pages.

 HTTP: Transmits information between a client (browser) and a server.
