Session: 2024-25
Half Yearly Exam Revision Worksheet
Answer Key
Name: Topic: L-4 and L-5
Class: VII Subject: Science
Prepared by: Aradhana Shanthappa Date:

Learning objective:
By the end of the week, learners will be able to:
 distinguish the difference between physical and chemical changes
 balance the given equation
 identify the properties of chemical changes.
 describe the properties of acidic, basic and neutral substances
 list the real-life applications of salts.

I Choose the correct option:

1. The piece of alum becomes bigger when another piece of alum is suspended in its solution. This
process is known as_________________.
(a) Ionisation (b) Evaporation (c) Crystallisation (d) Condensation

2. Chemical formula of baking soda is_______________.

(a) Ca(OH)2 (b) CH3COOH (c) NaHCO3 (d) CuSO4

3. K shell can hold _______electrons.

(a)4 (b)2 (c)18 (d)32

4. Which of the following is an organic acid?

(a)Acetic acid (b) Tartaric acid (c) Oxalic acid (d) All the these

5. Which medicines are used for treating indigestion?

(a) Antibiotic (b) Analgesic (c) Antacids (d) Antiseptic

6. Turmeric is a natural indicator. On adding its paste to acid and base separately, which colours
would be observed?
(a) Yellow in both acid and base (b) Yellow in acid and red in base
(c) Pink in acid and yellow in base (d) Red in acid and blue in base

7 Identify the characteristics of chemical reaction.

(a)Evolution of gas (b)Change in colour
(c)Formation of precipitate (d)All of these

II Case Study based question:

The symbolic representation of the composition of a chemical compound is known as its
chemical formula. For example, the chemical formula of sodium chloride is NaCl. The
combining capacity of the atom of an element with the atom of other elements is known as its
valency. Atomicity is the number of atoms present in an element.

1. Write the atomicity of the following:

(a)He:1 (b)N2: 2
2. Write the valency of the following.

(a)Potassium: 1 (b)Oxygen: 2 (c)Hydrogen:1

3. Write the symbol of the following

(a)Silicon: Si (b)Beryllium: Be (c)Calcium: Ca

III Answer the following questions:

1. A small amount of hydrochloric acid is always produced in the stomach. Is it useful or harmful
for us? If excess of acid is produced in the stomach, what should we do?
A small amount of hydrochloric acid is produced in our stomach which is useful for us as
hydrochloric acid kills the germs in the food that we eat and helps in digestion. If there is
excess of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, it causes indigestion which produces pain and
irritation. Its effect can be cured by taking antacids.

2. Write the effect of China rose petals on acidic and basic solutions.
Acidic solutions turn dark pink when in contact with China roses, whereas basic solutions
turn acidic solutions green.

3. List two uses of nitric acid.

Nitric acid is used in the production of ammonium nitrate for fertilizers, making plastics,
and in the manufacture of dyes.

4. Calamine solution is applied on the skin when an ant bites. Give reason.
The sting of an ant contains formic acid which causes irritation on the skin. Calamine
solution contains zinc carbonate which is a base. Calamine solution neutralises the acid
effect of the ant bite when applied on the skin.

5. Write any two properties of salts.

Two properties of salts-
1) Salts formed by the reaction of acids and bases.
2) Most of the salt are readily soluble in water.

6. Define acidic and basic salt.

Acidic salt is formed by neutralisation reaction between a strong acid and a weak base.
Basic salt is formed by neutralisation between a strong base and weak acid.

7. Define valency.
Valency is defined as the combining capacity of an element.

8. What is a reactant in the chemical reaction?

Reactants are the chemical substances which participate in chemical reactions and forms new
substances called as products.

9. Observe the given picture. What are the two changes that will be observed in test tube 2?
When baking soda is added to vinegar carbon dioxide gas is produced. When Carbon
dioxide gas is passed through lime water, lime water turns milky.

IV Balance the given chemical equation:

Hg + O2 HgO

Hg = 1 Hg=1
O= 2 O=1

2 Hg + O2 2 HgO

CuSO4 + H2S CuS + H2SO4

Cu =1 Cu=1
SO4 = 1 SO4 = 1
H2 = 1 H2 = 1
S=1 S=1

Equation is already balanced.

V Assertion and reason question:

a) Assertion and reason both are correct statements, and the reason is the correct explanation for
assertion.
b) Assertion and reason both are correct statements, and the reason is not the correct explanation
for assertion.
c) Assertion is a correct statement, but the reason is a wrong statement.
d) Assertion is a wrong statement, but the reason is a correct statement.

1. Assertion (A): Acids are sour in taste.

Reason (R): Bases are soapy to touch and bitter in taste.
a) Assertion and reason both are correct statements, and the reason is the correct
explanation for assertion.

2. Assertion (A): Evolution of gas is the confirmed sign of physical change.

Reason (R): Hydrogen gas evolved on a reaction of acids on metals.

d) Assertion is a wrong statement, but the reason is a correct statement.
