Introduction
In this lab session, we learned to utilize the Pspice
software, on how to use it to make simple circuits
and find the value of voltage, current and power
through any component. We learned where each of
the circuit components are in the software and how
to insert them and set up the circuit.

Objectives
The objectives of this lab were to: -

• Learn the use of the Pspice software.

• Learn how to make a simple circuit using software.
• To find out how to insert the resistance.
• To find out how to insert the power source.
• To find out how to insert the wires.
• To find out how to insert the grounding.
• To find out how to save and run the simulation.
• To find out how to check the voltage, current and power
through a component.

Equipment
The following equipment was required during the lab: -
• Mouse
• Computer
• Keyboard
3
• Pspice software
• Capture Lite Edition

Theoretical Background
We made our circuits on Capture Lite Edition. First, we click File->
New --> Project and create a blank document. Now we start
placing the circuit elements. To place wire press shift+W and left
click. To place ground, press shift+G, choose 0 source and press
ok. For placing resistor, click place--> parts ---> analog. Now type
R in symbol and press ok. This will allow us to place resistor. To
place dc voltage source, click place --> part. Choose source from
library and write Vdc under part. This will allow us to place voltage
source. Now to run the circuit, click Pspice--> New Simulation
Profile, name it and press ok. Now choose Bias point from the
dropdown menu of Analysis type. Bias point shows us the current,
voltage and power through components in a circuit but does not
show us any sort of graph. Now press V, I and W on the top of the
page to view current, voltage and power through the components.

Task 1

In the first task, we were simply asked

to make a circuit using wires, 10V dc power source, two resistors and a
ground.
4
Task 2

This task is similar to the previous

one but we just had to add another resistance(R3) in parallel to R2,
reducing the total resistance.

Task 3

This task increased the total number

of resistors in both series and parallel along with adding another power
source.

Conclusion
By the end of the lab, we became accustomed to the use of Pspice to
make simple circuits and to find power, voltages and currents. This
5
helped us to make even more complex circuits as can be seen in task 3.
