CE COMPETENCY APPRAISAL 2

ASSIGNMENT NO. 1 – PROBLEM SET

1. Determine the force in each cord for equilibrium of the 60-kg bucket.

2. A “scale” is constructed with a 4-ft long cord and the 10-lb block D. The cord is
fixed to a pin at A and passes over two small pulleys. Determine the weight of the
suspended block B if the system is in equilibrium when s=1.5ft
3. Determine the resultant force at A

4. Find the magnitude of the projected component of the force along the pipe AO.
5. Determine the reaction of the fixed support A

6. Two forces R and T pass through a point A which is 4 m to the right and 3 m above
a moment center O. Force R is 500 N directed up to the right at 20° with the
horizontal and force T is 300 N directed up to the left at 70° with the horizontal.
Determine the moment of the resultant of these two forces with respect to O.
7. Determine the reactions at the hinged support A and the roller support B as shown
in the figure.

8. A simply supported beam AB of 7m span is subjected to 4KN-m clockwise couple

at 2m from A, 8 KN-m anti-clockwise couple at 5 m from A and a triangular load
with zero intensity at 2m from A increasing to 4KN per meter at a pint from A.
Determine the reactions at A and B.
9. The 45-kg homogeneous smooth sphere rests on the two inclines as shown.
Determine the contact forces at A and B.

10. The bodies shown is homogeneous and has a mass of 40kg. Assume smooth

surface. Determine the reaction at acting at point B.
