2. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A student is

29 In the human body the site of absorption of digested food is the small intestine. How the 3
process of absorption is carried out and why is absorption of digested food necessary?

30 The plants were wilting in a garden and the gardener watered the plants. The plants became 3
fresh again. Which part of the plant is responsible for conducting water in it and how does the
process of conduction of water take place in plants?

31 (i) Write the expression for resistance of a conductor in terms of its length and area of cross 3
section.
(ii) A cylindrical wire of resistance R is melted and recasted into a wire of double the diameter.
What is the new resistance of the wire?

32 A 2 cm tall object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a convex lens of focal length 3
10 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 15cm. Find the position, nature and size of
the image

(ii) Write two causes of this defect.

Question No. 34 to 36 are long answer questions.
34 What is chemical formula of bleaching powder? Write preparation, properties and uses of 5
bleaching powder.
35 What constitutes the central and peripheral nervous systems? How are the components of 5
central nervous system protected? Which signals will get disrupted in case of a spinal cord
injury?
36 A hot plate of an electric oven connected to a 220V line has two resistance A and B, each of 1+2+2
24Ω resistance, which may be used separately, in series, or in parallel. What are the currents
in the three cases?

Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts. Internal choice is
provided in one of these sub-parts.
37 A metal salt MX when exposed to light splits of to form metal M and a gas X2 metal M is used 4
in making ornaments where as gas X2 is used in making bleaching powder. The salt MX is itself
used in black and white photography.

(c) Name of the metal salt MX.
(d) What type of chemical reaction takes place when salt MX is exposed to light?

38 The growing size of the human population is a cause of concern for all people. The rate of 4
birth and death in a given population will determine its size. Reproduction is the process by
which organisms increase their population. The process of sexual maturation for reproduction

is gradual and takes place while general body growth is still going on. Some degree of sexual
maturation does not necessarily mean that the mind or body is ready for sexual acts or for
having and bringing up children. Various contraceptive devices are being used by human
beings to control the size of the population.

(b) What is the result of reckless female foeticide?
(c) Which contraceptive method changes the hormonal balance of the body?
(d)Write two factors that determine the size of a population.

39 The spreading of light by air molecules and dust particles is called scattering of light. The light 1+1+2
having least wavelength is scattered more. The sky looks blue during day time and red at
sunrise and sunset. In the absence of atmosphere scattering is not possible. Scattering of light
by colloidal particles is known as Tyndall effect.
(i) Which colour of light will scatter more, blue or green?
(ii) To astronauts sky appears dark, why?
(iii) Clear sky looks blue during day time, why?
