Geometry A Cheat Sheet

Unit 2: Geometry Basics

This is your sample work assignment that will be submitted in the
Geometry Basics Apply Lesson #7 of this unit.
As you work through your lessons, fill in this graphic organizer.
(For this unit we filled some in to give you an idea of what were
are looking for, but in future units you will need to complete fully)

We want you to complete this with pencil and paper for the most
benefit to you!
1. Print this graphic organizer and then fill in with pencil
Or
2. Complete the graphic organizer in your notebook (make your
own columns)

● Create your own drawings and examples with labels

● Rephrase the definitions in your own words so that it make
sense to you
● Make this a tool that you understand. You WILL be allowed
to use this when completing quick checks, quizzes and tests.

If you insist on completing digitally

● Do not copy and paste images and definitions into the
document. You need to create your own
examples/diagrams
● You will need to find a way to print this so that you have a
paper copy for when we do ask you to use exam.net.
Lesson 2: Points, Lines, and Planes

Vocabulary Definition or Example or picture

Word Description
(or Theorem)

angle The figure

formed when
two rays meet
at a common
point

arc Part of the

circumference of
a circle

circle A closed plane

curve with
every point on
the curve
equidistant
from a fixed
point within the
curve
line A straight
figure that has
no thickness
and extends
infinitely in two
opposite
directions

Line segment The finite

section of a
line between
two points on
that line
Two lines That are
Parallel line In the same plane
And never intersect

Perpendicular Two lines whose

line Intersection
Forms a 90 degree
angle

Point A geometric
element that
has zero
dimensions
and a location Example: a location on a map
determinable
by an ordered
set of
coordinates

conjecture A statement
that is made Geometric Example Distinguishing features
based on
observations
but is not yet All four-sided shapes have Is an educated guess that
proven two diagonals. must be proved true.
definition A statement
that Geometric Example Distinguishing features
determines the
meaning of a Square- a four-sided shape Tells you what a term means
term or with four right angles and four or what to do with a concept;
concept and equal sides. assigns meaning.
describes what
it is

Euclidean The geometry

geometry based on
Euclid’s
axioms

postulate a statement
that is accepted
as true and has
not been
proved

Theorem A statement
that has been
proved to be
true using
arguments and
facts that are
accepted as
true

Undefined Concepts that

notions are the
building clocks
of geometry!
Undefined A term that
term does not need
to be defined
because it is
explained
using
examples and
descriptions,
such as a
point, line,
plane, and
space

Lesson 3: Constructing Segments

compass Geometry tool

for drawing
Circles,
Arcs,
And measuring
Distsnces

congruent Of the same

shape and
size; in
geometry,
congruent
parts overlap
perfectly when
placed on top
of one another
Used to indicate
Congruence Congruence
Symbols Between figures

construct To create a
shape or an
object in
geometry
using
appropriate
tools

endpoint A point value

that marks the
end of a line
segment or
interval

ray An endpoint
with a line
extending
forever in one
direction
segment The finite part
of a line
between two
points on the
line

straightedge A bar or piece

of material (as
