INTRODUCTION

Hughenden community has up to 100 members who mostly visit cafés as part of their daily

routine considering their quick accessibility to such establishments. For the past few years, it has

been of great concern among the members of the community regarding whether it was more

profitable to visit Café Blue or Starbucks. There has been an apparent amount of debacle

between primary goers of each café regarding which is more profitable. It is important that the

community members are informed of this as it will give them insight on the proper choice,

allowing them to spend less money as well as less time on a venture that is practiced often.

The purpose of this investigation is to provide the members of this community with the more

cost-effective choice between the two coffee houses by making comparisons. To do this the

researchers will:

1. Determine the average amount spent on a beverage at Starbucks compared to Café

Blue

2. Determine the average waiting time of customers at Starbucks and Café Blue

3. Determine Customer Satisfaction among customers.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION

The student researchers constructed a questionnaire by means of Google Forms. Data was

collected anonymously by 30 individuals and were asked what the range cost of a hot beverage

was at either Café Blue or Starbucks. Information regarding the amount of time that they waited

for such beverage was also asked for. Community members were sought out from different

individuals spotted within these establishments of the same amount to maintain an equal ratio of

1:1 in the respondents of one café as well as to make neutral calculations. The information will

be presented on tables, pie charts, column graphs and histograms.

ANALYSIS OF DATA

Formula for finding mean = Σ (Frequency * Midpoint) / Σ Frequency

In Figure 1, it shows that 50% of the respondents go to Starbucks for a beverage, while the other

50% go to Café Blue, maintaining the equal ratio as stated before.

Figure 2 reveals that only 13% who responded in terms of Starbucks pay an average amount of

more $1600.00 while the other 87% pays less $1600.00 or less.It also shows that the average

amount spent would be $1310.50. The modal price range was $1001.00 - $1300.00.

Figure 3 reveals that a majority of respondents in terms of Café Blue 73% pay up to $1600 or

less for a beverage while the other 27% pay less $1600.00 or less. .It also shows that the average

amount spent would be $1470.50.The modal price range was $1301.00 - $1600.00

Figure 4 revealed from the survey that 3 (20%) community members responding in terms of

Starbucks wait for 15 minutes or more to be served while the other 12 (80%) respondents who

answered for Starbucks wait for less than 15 minutes. The modal time interval was 10 to 14

minutes.

Figure 5 revealed that from the survey that 11 (73%) community respondents claimed that they

wait for 15 minutes or more to be served at Café Blue while the latter 4 (27%) respondents who

answered for Café Blue wait for less than 15 minutes. The modal interval was 15 to 19 minutes.

9
Figure 6 revealed that the mean waiting time among community members who go to Starbucks

on a is 14.47. In contrast, Figure 7 revealed that those who go to Café Blue wait to be served on

average 22.8 minutes, a 58% increase from the Starbucks time. There is an 8.33-minute

difference between the two average times.

Figure 8 revealed that 14 (93%) community respondents are satisfied with the overall service

they receive at Starbucks and only 1 (7%) respondent was either dissatisfied or very dissatisfied.

Additionally, only 3 (20%) respondents claimed that they were either satisfied or very satisfied

while the other 12 (80%) respondents were satisfied or dissatisfied.

10
DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS

Based on the data gathered, the average amount spent among Hughenden community

members who go to Starbucks daily is $1310.50 whereas the average amount spent among

Café Blue goers is 1470.50. The difference between the two averages was found to be 160,

meaning that there is a 12% increase in money spent between the two.

Additionally, the researchers found that the modal waiting time at Starbucks among the

members of the community was 4 to 9 minutes while for Café Blue it was 15-19 minutes.

The reason why Café Blue’s modal waiting time was significantly higher than Starbucks

might be due to the handful of staff operating at a possibly slower pace than the Starbucks

employees.

More customers were satisfied with service at Starbucks than dissatisfied. This may be due to

the high standard presentation of beverages or even the taste More customers were

dissatisfied with service Café Blue than satisfied. This may be because of high prices, low

presentation of beverages or even bad taste.

11
CONCLUSION

The researchers can conclude that the more cost effective between the two Cafés would for

Hughenden community members be is Starbucks rather than Café Blue. This is because the

average amount of money spent is a reasonable $1310.50 as well a decently low on average

waiting time of 14.47 minutes.
