Technical classification of spinning methods

1- Continuous spinning process
2- Discontinuous spinning process
In the first method, the fiber stream is continuous without interruption
from feeding until the formation of the yarn, and in this case, the
movement of the fibers is completely controlled, such as ring spinning
and air spinning
As for the second method, the continuity of the fibers is interrupted by
pulling them to the point of a single strand and separating some of them
from each other in a stream of air, then reassembling them to form the
thread, as in open-end spinning and friction spinning

Purpose of Ring spinning machine:-

1- The last stage in which work is done on straightening the fibers
2- The last stage is a process in which the fibers are aligned in the
direction of the longitudinal axis of the yarn to improve the
appearance and properties of the yarn.
3- The last stage is when the fibers are drafted and the thickness of
the roving is reduced to the required yarn thickness.
The fiber drafting device achieves the three previous purposes
4- Giving the resulting yarn the necessary twists according to its
functional performance
5- Wind the resulting yarn on special bobbins

Spinning Machines 2

The ring spinning machine consists of the following devices:-

1. Feeding device
2. Fiber drafting device
3. Twisting device
4. yarn stacking device

1- Feeding device
 The purpose of this device is to feed the roving to the spinning machine
after loosening it from the bobbin at a constant speed to the drawing
device.
 Experiments have shown that irregular feeding is one of the important
reasons affecting the uniformity of the resulting yarn
 The roving is fed to the drawing device either single or double.
Experiments have shown that double feeding of the roving leads to an
increase in the strength of the resulting yarn by 2:4%, as well as to an
improvement in the yarn’s regularity coefficient by 7:5%.

2- Fiber drafting device

 Drafting devices are used on spinning machines to obtain the thickness
of the yarn required to be produced
 Drafting devices is considered one of the most important parts of the
ring spinning machine, as it affects the regularity of the produced yarns,
in addition to its direct impact on operating economics.
 Configuration of lower and upper drafted cylinders the same
configuration of cylinders in the roving machine
 Place the drafted cylinders at an angle of 25:45 degrees. The reason for
this tilt is the possibility of the screws reaching the point where the fibers
are caught in the front cylinder,

3- Twisting device
 The purpose of the twists in the yarn is to bind the fibers together
with transverse forces in the direction of the yarn axis to give
sufficient strength to withstand the stresses during the following
stages.
 The relationship between yarn strength and the number of twists
given;-
Directly to a certain extent, then the opposite happens
 The shrinkage rate of the yarn increases due to the twisting and
ranges between 2% and 7%

 An increase the number of twists in the yarn leads to an increase in its

rigidity, while a decrease the number of twists in the yarn leads to its
softness, and each of these has its function.
 Factors affecting the number of twists :-
 Type of material 2- Staple length 3- Final use

The fibers emerging from the drawing device installed on the ring
spinning machine are given twists using a device consisting of:
Spindle Traveller Ring

Traveller
Traveller is a metal object made in the form of a small arc or in the shape of
the letter (C). It is made of fine tempered steel wire. Traveller is mounted
and moves on the ring and takes the yarn from the front cylinder to place it
on the bobbin.
Main Traveller jobs:-
1- Giving twisted to the fibers
2- It has an important role in tying the yarn around the bobbin
3-The traveller exerts a tensile force on the yarn while it is stacked to
produce a cohesive bobbin
"Traveller Number"
Traveller number is a mathematical number that has a direct relationship
to the weight in grams for 1000 "thousand" Travellers.
The selection of the appropriate weight for spinning a certain type of yarn
depends on many factors, including:-
1- Yarn count
2- Spindles speed
3- Traveller type
4- Number of permitted cuts

Spinning Balloon
A spinning balloon is a "geometrical shape" indentation of the spun yarn
in the area between the yarn guide and the traveler.
This geometric shape is created only when the Traveller rotates on the
flange of the ring at a certain rotational speed, as this speed causes the
yarn to be exposed to a centrifugal force that causes it to bend outwards,
taking the external shape of a balloon.

Spindles
It is a vertical column that rotates around its axis at a speed ranging from
8,000 to 25,000 revolutions per minute, and is mounted on its upper part
with a paper or plastic bracket on which the yarn is wound.
Spindles speed:
The productivity of the ring spinning machine is directly proportional to
the spinner speed, but it was found that the spinner speed in turn affects
the properties of the produced yarns, as the number of short fibers
protruding on the surface of the yarn increases as the Spindles speed
increases.
