Assignment 04 – Computer Network

 Define the following terms:
1. Computer Network is a system that connects two or more computing
device for transmitting and sharing information. Computing devices
include everything from a mobile phone to a server. There devices are
connected using physica; wires such as fiber optics, but they can also be
wireless.
2. Proticol is a standerdized set of rules for formatting and processing
data. Protocals enable computers to communicate with one another.
3. Router is a device that connects two or more packet-swtched networks
or subnetworks.
4. Switch is networking hardware that connects devices on a computer
network by suing paket switching to receive and forward data to the
destination deivce.
5. Firewall is a network security device that monitors incoming and
outgoing network traffic and deicdes whether to allow or block specific
traffic based on a defined set of security rules.
6. Internet is a globle network of linked computers, servers, phones, and
smart appliances that communicate with each other using the
transmission control protocol (TCP) standard to enable the fast
exchange of information and diles, along with other types of services.
7. Wi-Fi (short for Wireless Fidelity) is a technology that allows devices
such as computers, smartphones, tablets, and other devices to connecr
ro a wireless local area emtwrok (WLAN) using radio waves as a
transmission medium.

 Explain the differences between the following

1. MAC address and IP Address
o MAC Address is used to ensure the physical address of the computer
and is unique and unchangeable.
o IP Adress is used to identify the connection of the network with the
device and can be changed and reassigned.
2. LAN ( Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide area Network)
o LAN ( Local Area Network) is a computer network covering a small
geographic area, like a home, office, school, or group of buildings.
o WAN (Wide area Network) is a computer network that covers a broad
geographical area, crossing metropolitan, regional, or national
boundaries..
3. TCP ( Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP ( User Datagram Protocol)
o The main difference between TCP (transmission control protocol) and
UDP (user datagram protocol) is that TCP is a connection-based
protocol and UDP is connectionless. While TCP is more reliable, it
transfers data more slowly. UDP is less reliable but works more quickly.
4. IPv4 and IPv6 are both IP addresses that are used to identify machines
connected to a network. The main differences between IPv4 and IPv6 are
o IPv4 is a 32-bit system using a string of numbers separated by periods,
whereas IPv6 is a 128-bit system using alphanumeric sequences
separated by colons.
o IPv6 addresses are longer and formatted differently, so there are more
possible unique IPv6 address configurations.
o IPv6 is an upgraded version of IPv4.

o IPv4 is the current standard for IP addresses in the TCP/IP model, while
IPv6 is a newer IP version on the rise.
o IPv6 allows for a lot more unique IP address than IPv4.
