1. SAMARTHAK- The First Ship of Multi-Purpose Vessel: India’s first Multi-Purpose Vessel
(MPV) project ship, built by L&T Shipyard for the Indian Navy, has been launched at L&T
Kattupalli. This is a significant achievement for Indian shipbuilding, with Admiral Dinesh K
Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff, leading the ceremony. Mrs. Shashi Tripathi, President of the
Naval Wives Welfare Association, launched the vessel, named ‘Samarthak’, which means
‘Supporter’ in Hindi.
2. Indian Naval Ships Enhance Maritime Cooperation in Bahrain: The Indian Naval Ship (INS)
Tir and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Veera arrived in Manama, Bahrain, as part of a Long
Range Training Deployment in the Persian Gulf. This visit highlights India’s dedication to
improving maritime security and cooperation in the region.
3. PM Internship Schemer: The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme was launched on
October 3, 2024. This ambitious initiative, implemented through an online portal, aims to
provide one crore young individuals with valuable internship opportunities over the
next five years, allowing them to immerse themselves in diverse business environments and
explore various professions.
4. New Director General of Indian Coast Guard: S. Paramesh officially took charge as
the Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard at its headquarters in New Delhi. His
appointment comes following the tragic demise of his predecessor, DG Rakesh Pal, last
month. Paramesh, who had been officiating as the Director General, was formally
appointed by the government a day prior. Upon assuming office, he was honored with a
ceremonial guard of honour.
5. ISRO Chairman S. Somanath Receives Prestigious IAF World Space Award: Dr. S.
Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been honored
with the prestigious International Astronautical Federation (IAF) World Space Award.
This accolade was awarded in recognition of the remarkable success of Chandrayaan-3,
India’s lunar mission that made history with its soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole. The
award ceremony took place in Milan, Italy, and marked a significant milestone in India’s
growing prominence in space exploration.
6. India’s Biodiversity Target Under CBD: India plans to submit its National Biodiversity
Targets to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) aligning with
the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). Article 6 of CBD calls
all parties to prepare national strategies, plans or programmes for conservation and
sustainable use of biodiversity. India is expected to submit its 23 biodiversity targets at
the 16th Conference of the Parties to the CBD (CBD-COP 16) at Cali, Colombia.

7. Living Planet Report 2024: According to the World Wide Fund for Nature
(WWF)’s Living Planet Report 2024, there has been a catastrophic 73% decline in the
average size of monitored wildlife populations in just 50 years (1970-2020).
