Opening

This report will give you a clear look at

the climate change in Hong Kong in
recent years, especially in terms of
temperature.

The reason is that the temperature

has been getting hotter recently,
which has annoyed the public.

Lee Wing Lam

• In recent years, the general public has felt and
believed that global temperatures have become
hotter and even worse.

• In order to confirm the gradual increase in

temperature, we decided to analyze the impact of
Hong Kong's hot weather on us.

Background
• In the analysis, we collect some data from the
Hong Kong Observatory and use Excel to process
all the data, such as :
➢ Temperature
➢ Rainfall
➢ Extreme heat
➢ Cold weather

Yeung Hoi Him

Date Source

• Calculate the climate data from 2012 and 2021 from the big data of the Hong Kong
Observatory

• Collect data on cloud cover, humidity, rainfall, and average temperature from the Hong
Kong Observatory

• Highlight the temperature rise in Hong Kong, we will only use data from 2012 and 2021

Yu Hiu Tung
Date Analysis

• Collect the data from the Hong Kong Observatory

• Perform different data processing

e.g: charts and Excel formulas

• Calculate average data for cloud cover, rainfall, heat and

cold, weather, and temperature

• This effectively displays all data from 2012 and 2021

Scenario summary

Total of cold day are increase from 2012 to 2021 Total of hot day are also increase from 2012 to 2021
Analysis of sheet 1

• Data analysis in Excel (after the Hong Kong Observatory’s ensemble average per month)

• Used “AVERAGE” to find the amount of “Humidity Average”, “Cloudiness Average” and “Average Temperature” in
2012 and 2021

• Used “SUM” to find the amount of “Total Rainfall”, “Total of Cold and Hot days” in 2012 and 2021

• Used “MAX” to find the amount of “highest temperature” in 2012 and 2021

• Used “MIN” to find the amount of “lowest temperature” in 2012 and 2021

• Used “SCENARIO MANAGER” to find out the change of the cold day and hot day from 2012 to 2021

• Used the Line charts and bar charts to present the trend of total rainfall and the average of the highest and the
lowest of temperature per month in 2012 and 2021 Yeung Hoi Him
Finding of sheet 1

• Average humidity and cloudiness and total of cold day in 2012 higher than in 2021.

• Total of rainfall and hot day in 2012 lower than in 2021.

• The average temperature in 2012 is basically lower than that in 2021.

• In average of the highest of temperature

➢ The minimum temperature is 17°C in 2012 to 19.3°C in 2021
⚫ Temperature keeps increasing
⚫ Humidity and Cloudiness keep decreasing

Compare (Pivot table)

Compare with September of 2012 and 2021

• Max of temperature in September of 2012 is 27.9 degree
• Max of temperature in September of 2021 is 29.5 degree

➢ September of 2021 is more higher than September of 2012

Analysis of sheet 2
• Dates analysis in Excel (after the Hong Kong Observatory’s ensemble average of daily)

• Used “COUNTIF”
➢ To find the amount that are higher than average temperature (25°C) in 2012

• Used “COUNTIF”
➢ To find the amount that are higher than average temperature (25°C) in 2021

• Used “MAX“ to find the day of highest temperature in 2012 and 2021

• Used “MIN “ to find the day of lowest temperature in 2012 and 2021

• Data with analysis with line chart

➢ Hong Kong Observatory provided all-year temperature changes from 2012 and 2021

• Used “Pivotable”
➢ To compare with the maximum of temperature in September of 2012 and 2021 Lau Chak Kam
Finding of sheet 2

• Use the average temperature (25°C) in 2021

➢To compare the 2021 and 2012 temperature
➢Find the amount of day that higher than average temperature
➢The amount of 2021 is 152 days is more than 131 days of 2012

• The highest and lowest temperature in 2012 and 2021 is very close
➢Highest :29.6 vs 29.5
➢Lowest :7.1 vs 7.7

Sheet 3.2

Yeung Hoi Him

Sheet 3.3
Analysis of sheet 3
• Datas analysis in Excel (after the Hong Kong Observatory’s ensemble average of
month)

• Use the bar charts to present the average of temperature per month in 2012 and
2021

• Use the bar charts to compare the Humidity and Cloudiness of per month in 2012
and 2021

• Use the XY (Scatter) to figure out the trend of humanity and cloudiness in every
month in 2012 to 2021

Yeung Hoi Him

Finding of sheet 3
• The average temperature results show that temperatures continue to rise per month
• Average temperature rises gradually from April to September

• The average temperature in January is the lowest

➢ But the average temperature in 2021 will be higher than that in 2012

• Except for a slight decrease from 2012 August to October, the overall humidity is higher than in 2021.

• As the temperature gets warmer, the humidity and Cloudiness gets lower
• Decreased cloudiness cover leads to less rainfall and warmer temperatures

• Humidity and cloudiness of 2012 are also higher than 2021

Yeung Hoi Him
Predict of climate
change
• The temperature of every year will more and more rise

• Average and highest temperature will get higher (record high)

• The global warming will get critical

• The greenhouse effects will get worse

Yeung Hoi Him

Which formula that we used?

• SUM
• MAXIMUM
• MINIMUM
• AVERAGE
• COUNTIF

Edited image 1 analysis:

• Use a photo of a high-rise building in Hong Kong and a picture of an image of a photograph.

• The sun in the sky shining on the cartoon boy, making it appear that the weather is scorching.

1. Use the GIMP program for editing.

2. Select and cut out the cartoon boy in the advertising photo
3. Paste it into the image of the high-rise buildings in Hong Kong

Edited image 2 analysis:

• Used GIMP program

• Cut out the hot weather logo picture
• Pasted it next to the lady
• Changed the photo‘s original colour. For example:

1. Deleted the actual colour

2. Changed the saturation of the colour
3. Changed the paint so that a new image was synthesised
4. Can be seen that the new synthesised photo looks very hot

Edited image 3 analysis:

• Changed the colour of the photo of drinking water, and then

composited the red photo. For example:

1. Decrease the colour and transparency of the photo of

drinking water
2. Fill in the colour
3. Composite the red photo

Lee Wing Lam

Conclusion

• Learned a lot of computer skills

Eg: how to use excel formulas, make data charts and edit photos.

• Learned how to use excel formulas

Eg: Sum, average , maximum and minimum to compile weather data for Hong Kong
from 2012 to 2021.

• Learned how to create data charts to show the changes in weather data in Hong Kong
from 2012 to 2021.
Kan Wai Mai
Conclusion

In terms of editing photos, Make a picture transparent Add colour Increase its saturation Cut out a small part of the
the computer report photo
enabled us to know how to
edit photos in the way we
wanted
