Rationale
Kearney et al. (2020), attendance and engagements are important, especially when it comes to
academic performance, achievements or even test scores. These are not the only things linked
to the problems often faced at school. There are also health and mental related things, such as
depression and anxiety. (Kearney et al.). Moreover, cutting classes is also undoubtedly
common, especially in schools and the teachers sometimes don't know it because of the errors
manipulated on attendance checking. The students just don't show up for class without
informing their parents and teachers of their absence. It serves as an important factor in the
individual's assessment, monitoring, and keeping their record. The teachers believe that the
parents are aware of their child's absence from school, so they would not inform the parents
until after the absence was reported. In addition, some parents are preoccupied with their jobs
and don't pay much attention to their kids. As a result, they are unaware of the fact that their
kids are either attending their school or not. Due to the fact that they do not even have to worry
about their parents finding out, this motivates the lazy to attend class.
There is also an increase in the fear of being in danger. These are ideas that no person has
ever had in the recent past. Before the next kidnapping episode was reported in the news last
year, everyone believed that everything was well. Parents are advised to use additional caution
when dropping off their children at school. It was obvious that it had not been shown this year,
but it is better to be careful than sorry. Teenagers rebelling against their parents can be a major
identification device (RFID) technology originated with the researchers. The system keeps
track of each student's attendance automatically, sparing the teacher from spending too much
time doing so. For parents to keep track of their children's attendance at school while they are
away at work or home, it is also capable of notifying them through SMS messages. Students
would be required to go to school each day and show up for class if they knew their parents
would find out if they were unable to do so. Additionally, by being aware that their child may
attend the class, their parents could keep an eye on their kids' safety there.
The proposed study aims to make attendance monitoring and checking easier for the
individuals that will use it. It will help to lessen the time that individuals consume in just
attendance checking and reduce the challenges encountered. Furthermore, the study would be

Theoretical Framework
The researchers formed different theories and concepts about the Attendance Checking System.
These concepts show possibilities if the product is used and implemented in establishments
such as schools and different workplaces. The theories could be either positive or negative
based on how the establishments and the individuals will benefit while using the Attendance
Checking System.

Jadhav, A., Patil, A., and Dutonde, S. (2020) observed and noted the importance of
academic organizations or institutions tracking students' daily attendance in class. In the vast
majority of educational institutions, daily attendance is taken in a traditional way. One counts
the attendees. By manually filling out an attendance register book, which is then sent week- or
month-wise to a server, it is possible to find each student's attendance history. Due to the length
of this process, some lecture time is lost. To solve this, these researchers suggested and
The device works when the ESP matches and verifies the user's fingerprint once it is
captured by the R307 fingerprint sensor, which then validates the server's data. All of these
actions will be carried out on the system's back end. Users will be able to control the system
thanks to its front-end, which will include a graphical user interface. From the system's
dashboard, users will be able to perform a variety of tasks, such as selecting a day and class, a
faculty member, and turning on the system to take attendance. This gadget will be used to take
attendance in the classroom. Faculty members will also be able to update an individual student's
attendance status for a certain lecture. The central server and the gadget are connected
wirelessly, thus the database on the server will have information on the students' attendance at
lectures. The pupils' fingers will be placed on a fingerprint scanner, which will identify them
by comparing the collected prints to those in the database. The teachers' dashboards will display
this attendance.
This system has the same concept that the researchers wanted their system to be to make it
more convenient for the students and the teachers. But to expand it, it can also be used in
attendance checking in different establishments and workplaces that can be harder to check
attendance.
Pandey, P., and Majahan, K. D. (2021) implemented RFID technology in libraries for
security reasons to safeguard the safety of the staff, the resources and equipment in the libraries,
and library users. Additionally, by automating their tasks, RFID in libraries saves library staff
time. The time a book reader would have spent standing in line to check out or return a book is
saved by an establishment that implements RFID library management. It is crucial to look after
books and make them available to readers. The majority of the library staff's time is devoted to
Self-check-in and check-out systems can totally automate the borrowing and returning of
books. A special software installation is required for this system. A computer screen displays
possibilities for the user utilizing this method to borrow books. Individual has
to use a code, preferably a personal identification number or another type of special identifying
code, to identify himself. The system's integrated RFID reader identifies the books that the user
has chosen. Additionally, the monitoring feature in the book's tag is turned off by the program.
The check-in/check-out system turns on the surveillance bit when a book is returned.
The investigation gave the researchers ideas for creating a system that will aid to monitor
people who will be in the establishments. When borrowing books from the library, the system
also utilizes its own identifying code to verify the borrower's identity. Both the people who
would use it and the employees and librarians who would put this kind of system in place would
Bhavani, P., Vaishnavi, S., Vennila, P., Vijayalakshmi, V. (2020) developed a project
focused on automation of the bus attendance process through license plate recognition. The
researchers had the idea of using the license plate because it is a specific feature of each vehicle.
License plate recognition is a highly accurate system which is capable of reading the license
plate without any human intervention through the use of image capture and character detection.
The bus attendance system also uses a number plate recognition system and OCR instead of

attendance and the library. Attendance has an important purpose such as record keeping,
students assessment, and optimal promotion. The application of this system may reduce the
challenges in recording the attendance. The traditional method involves the usage of paper and
Rather than signing the attendance sheet, this system lets the individuals scan QR codes
provided by the lecturer using smartphones and simultaneously record the attendance of the
student. In library activities, the students can scan a provided QR code at the back of the book
for book loans and it will automatically update the system. This will reduce the time that the
students consume for queueing at the counter service. This would benefit the students,

Treatment
The treatments are the individuals that will use the system. The data were gathered
through series observations and evaluations on those individuals. The researchers asked
questions regarding their experience on using the system. The results are compared with the
results of individuals that use the traditional attendance monitoring. With this, the researchers
were able to determine if the Attendance Checking System would be more useful to
traditional attendance checking system. The researchers would see if the Attendance
Checking System is better in terms of attendance checking since it is more advanced and
more convenient for the individuals that will use it. The researchers proceeded to test the
hypothesis whether the project has a positive or negative result during the implementation.
Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID), in its most basic sense, is a type of
frequency region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The three basic parts of an RFID consist
connected device, wherein the signals that turn on the tag are transmitted via radio waves.
The tag is usually a passive device and does not have a battery. The wave that is sent by the
tag back into the antenna after activation is converted into data.
In this project, the researchers used a type of RFID reader called RC522. The RC522
module is one of the cheapest that you can buy. Most of the time, it already has a RFID tag
The RFID RC522 module has a total of 8 pins. Namely the VCC, RST, GND, IRQ, MISO
/ SCL / Tx, MOSI (Master Out Slave In), SCK (Serial Clock), and SS / SDA / Rx.
● VCC - it supplies the power in the module. You can connect it on the 3.3V output
from the Arduino. You cannot connect it to 5V since it can destroy the module.
● RST - it is an input for power-down and reset. The module would be in power-down
mode if the pin goes low, wherein, the input pins are disconnected and the oscillator
will be turned off. The module will reset on the rising edge of the signal.
● GND - Since it is the ground pin, it should be connected to the GND pin on the
Arduino R3 module.
● IRQ - It is the so-called interrupt pin. It alerts the microcontroller when an RFID tag

● MOSI (Master Out Slave In) - it is the SPI input to the RC522 module.
● SCK (Serial Clock) - It accepts the clock pulses from the SPI.
● SS / SDA / Rx - This pin is usually marked by encasing the pin in a square to be used
as a reference to identify the other pins. When the SPI interface is enabled, this pin
acts as the signal input. As the serial data when the I2C interface is enabled and as a

Statistical Analysis
The project is identified by the researchers as a qualitative type of research since the study
is focused on finding out if the Attendance Checking System is useful during attendance
checking. By observing and asking questions of the individuals (treatment group) that used
the Attendance Checking System if it is more convenient to them than asking for your
presence or writing your name as an attendance. The researchers used a descriptive type for
analyzing that were gathered through observations and interviews at the end and compared
the answers if the Attendance Checking System is more relevant than the traditional
After the experimentation and procedures are done, the researchers started to evaluate and
observe the scope and impact of using the Attendance Checking System. The researchers
observed the differences in using the advanced attendance checking system that uses radio-
frequency technology and the traditional attendance checking. The researchers did an
evaluation to identify those differences and see what is more convenient for the individuals
that use the attendance checking system (treatment group) and those that don't (constant
group).
The researchers asked questions and observed the answers of the individuals that used the
attendance checking system that they implemented. To see if they had some technical issues
regarding the system, such as swiping the card or if it is not working as it is supposed to be.

wherein either they are supposed to call your name or write your name on a sheet of paper by
falling in a line. Moreover, the researchers also observed regarding the system to see if it can
be used for a long time and has a high durability because the product is supposed to work
every day and be used for a long time since attendance checking is supposed to be done every

Based on the result of the assessment, the product is not 100% efficient. There is a 33.33%
that the product won’t work accordingly to what the researchers are expecting it to be. Still,
the researchers formulated null hypothesis is rejected because 66.67% us still a higher value
than 33.33%. Its not 100% working but it still works and reduced the challenges that the
individuals encounter during attendance checking. Morover, the researchers concluded that
the product should still improve and need more studying. The researchers compiled

DISCUSSION
Based on the result that the researchers computed, the product won’t be 100% efficient.
The research concluded that the product needs to improve in order to meet the expectations
that the researchers are expecting. The code system has errors in it, so in result, the
researchers faced a lot of errors while programming the product. There are features that are
possible to be added on the product. The product can be improved into more advanced
The system itself is a bit bugged. There are times when the card won’t scan, this error
would be fixed if the researchers did the programming all over again. There are times that
even when the researchers closed the serial monitor, it won’t work at all. Sometimes, when
the researchers tried to change the cards name into the sample name, the name is still the
same.
Recommendations
The researchers formed and compiled a list of recommendations that the product would
• On the product itself, the researchers are suggesting adding a feature that would send
a message to;
to let them know that their child went to school and is safe.
2. If it will be implemented at workplaces and other establishments, the feature
will send a message to the managers in order to know how many employees
This feature is possible through adding a code and redoing the programming of the
product itself.
• On the coding, the researchers are suggesting learning more codes to improve those
that is existing and used on the system. This will help reduce the malfunctions that the
individuals are experiencing while using the product that causes more inconveniences
instead of reducing.
• The casing of the product could be improved depending on the budget. The current
material that was used on the casing is a sign board. This material is not waterproof
and the system inside that it was protecting is fragile. It could easily break if it would
have a contact with water. The researchers are suggesting improving the design and
the material that is used. The suggested materials that could be used to improve the

that the whole system could be inside and that it is more safe, especially the
The researchers can conclude that the null hypothesis is therefore rejected, and advising
the future researchers to improve the existing products with the help of the recommendations.
Conclusion
The Attendance Checking System is a system that would help people have easy and
organized attendance data. The product will ensure the data of attendance and would also
reduce time in taking attendance especially at school situation. The product will help the
employees, teachers, and establishments to consume less time in compiling data. The product
is designed for easy access. The product is made with materials that can be found online at a
reasonable price. With this, researchers, schools and other establishments will be able to
purchase it and implement it. Although, in this study, the product didn’t work properly, there
will be more chance to improve it to better program the device. Recommendations and other
suggestions from other professionals will be a great help in this matter. The researchers
realized that the product didn’t work as expected and there were a lot of errors in the making.
The study contained trial and errors, and the researchers finally figured that there’s a chance
that the product won’t work. When the researchers first tried programming the device, there
was a bit of an error, but the researchers succeeded in programming it. A probability test was
done in order to know if the product is successful or not, in other words, if the null hypothesis
would be rejected or accepted. In the end, the researchers decided to reject the null hypothesis
although they compiled recommendations in order to improve the product if there are chance
in the future. With this, the researchers finished the study with recommendations prepared for
For years, checking attendance in a traditional way takes up too much time. It consumes
most of the time, especially in a classroom situation since students see this as an opportunity
to distract the teachers, this event will lead to lesser time when it comes to teaching.
Attendance in every work situation is also a must, not only to keep track of every employee’s
day of work but also to ensure their activeness at work. For students, it is necessary for them
to stay inside the school premises unless told to leave or it is time for dismissal.
The Attendance Checking System is proposed to help individuals have an easy and
organized manner when monitoring attendance. This would benefit individuals, employers and
teachers, and establishments where the system is implemented. The product is powered with
the use of Arduino Uno. With this, individuals will have more time spared, especially in a
