My Speech
My Speech
members of the
floor. we are gathered here to discuss the topic for our debate on why knowledge is better than experience. We the opposition team
strongly believe that this statement is not true.
RECAP > Our first speaker had already given some points on why experience is better than knowledge. Our first speaker already
mentioned that [1] experience can help you learn from your mistakes. [2] experience help you understand the theory behind a
concept.
REBUTTAL > Ladies and gentlemen ,[1] the second affirmative speaker had tried to tell you that knowledge helps us to make
informed decisions. Although this may be true, experience also helps us to make informed decisions in a more quick and efficient
way. This is true because, to make any decision, we rely on the weight of experience to make judgments and decisions. We interpret
the past of what we have seen and what we have been told in order to think and make a decision. After all, didn't our ability to make
sense of what we have been through get us where we are now? Specifically , to make more accurate decisions in uncertain situations
, we need experience. But how does our past experience effect our decision making? you may ask. Well, our past experiences can
impact our future decision making because people are more likely to decide in a similar way , given a similar situation. On the other
hand, people tend to avoid repeating past mistakes. Yes, knowledge helps us make informed decisions. But, without experience how
would you avoid any mistakes? The more experience you have in a certain field, the easier it is for you to make decisions. [2] The
second affirmative speaker had also mentioned that knowledge can be taught whereas experience cannot. This is wrong because,
the best way to learn is through experience. Real-world experience is the best teacher because it is hands-on and deals directly with
our senses. It is also important because we often don’t truly understand something until we have done it ourselves. When we learn
from books, our lessons are ideas, so they don’t always easily translate into actions.
ARGUMENTS in my speech today i will be giving 3 points on why experience is more important comparing to knowledge.
1. # Now on to my first point, i strongly believe that experience can help a person become an expert in a particular field. Before i start
, yes an expert is a person who has exceptional or specialized knowledge. But, a person with specialized skills regarding a particular
field or subject can help that person perform a task better. To become known as an expert in your field you have to invest your time
and effort. So coming back to my point , through experience you can practice your knowledge to polish your skills even if it takes
hours, days or even months. anyone who wants to be an expert in a particular field needs practice and experience. no matter how
many you read a book, you can’t become an expert. Neither musicians, athletes, scientists, nor doctors have read books and became
experts just like that. Of course, reading the best books on learning gives you knowledge, but experience directly helps you develop
skills and helps you to understand different perspectives and situations deeper. It comes from practicing again and again.
2. # As for my second point. It is true that Experience Allows You To Be More Confident In Your Abilities. Most people say, when they
feel more confident they can perform better or do better . But confidence is not the starting point. The starting point is experience.
Confidence is the result of experience. through experience you learn from your mistakes. and once you have learned from your
mistakes you certainly would not repeat them again right? you know that you are not going to repeat the same mistakes again
because you have learnt it through experience. This helps you boost your confidence Self-confident people believe they have the
qualities, skills and intelligence to be successful—even in the most challenging of situations. But how do you gain these qualities,
skills and intelligence?? through experience .There is nothing worse than not trusting yourself and always second-guessing your
decisions and abilities. But if you have lots of experience under your belt, then you will be able to know how capable you are of
doing something and be more confident in your decisions. The more you practice, the more new ways you have in your brain to do a
good job. The more experience you have in practicing a concept you are learning, the better you will master the necessary skills. Of
course, with experience, skills and concepts are acquired. They become a part of you. When they become a part of you , you will find
yourself becoming even more confident day by day.
3. #As for my third and final point, i am certain and sure without a doubt that experience itself gives us knowledge. Knowledge without
experience is just information. Information does not grow over time if it is not being used. A book is like a guide to the pursuit of
knowledge. But each of us needs to experience it. furthermore, you are highly and most likely to lose this knowledge anyway after
some time without any experience. Therefore, through experience you gain knowledge. So, reading more books about something
doesn’t lead to success. You can acquire a lot of knowledge by reading and teaching, but there are also ways to accumulate
knowledge through experience. Knowledge is theoretical, but experience is distinguished by the fact that you can put into practice
what you have learned in a book. It is also an opportunity to test and challenge your knowledge. Without the knowledge you gain
from experience, you would be completely clueless about certain aspects of life. You wouldn’t understand what goes into making a
successful business, or why people behave in a certain way. Experience allows you to build relationships. Also, Experience teaches
you how to deal with different types of people. As you gain experience, you will learn how to handle different personalities – You’ll
also learn how to negotiate and compromise, which can come in handy when working with a team.
Ladies and gentlemen. Now it is time to wrap up our debate and talk about the points that we had introduced to prove why our team
should win this debate. However, due to the limited time, i will not be elaborating our points deeply.
