Topic 3: DAYS OF THE WEEK & DATES OF THE MONTH

 Just like in English, you learn the same days in Japan, Monday to Sunday.
 And, just like all of our days end in -day, the name of each day ends in -youbi or -
yōbi, depending on your romaji preferences (hiragana: よ う び ); -youbi, of course,
simply means day (of the week). It’s pronounced like “yoh” as in yo-yo and
“bee” as in a bumble bee, with emphasis on the “yoh”. That means what varies
in the names of the days of the week is what comes first.

LESSON PROPER:

 DAYS OF THE WEEK

- Getsu means moon, so Monday is the day of moon;
- Ka means fire, so Tuesday is the day of fire;
- Sui means water, so Wednesday is the day of water;
- Moku means wood, so Thursday is the day of wood.
- Kin means gold, so Friday is the day of gold;
- Do means earth, so Saturday is the day of earth; and
- Nichi means sun, so Sunday is the day of sun.

 MONDAY - GETSUYOUBI げつようび

 TUESDAY - KAYOUBI かようび
 WEDNESDAY - SUIYOUBI すいようび
 THURSDAY - MOKUYOUBI もくようび
 FRIDAY - KINYOUBI きんようび

 DATES OF THE MONTH

- There are more to remember when it comes to the Japanese days of the
month. Firstly there are special readings from the 1st to 10th days.
- Pay attention to the difference between the 4th and the 8th. The 4th is read
as よっか (yokka), whereas the 8th is read as ようか (youka).
- Take note of the special reading for the 20th, はつか (hatsuka).
- For the other days ended in four (14th and 24th), you have to read them as
じゅうよっか (juuyokka).
