“EXPLORING THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN DEVELOPING BARTENDING SKILLS
AMONG SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS “

Rationale

Manasan (2020) is the only study found to have done a similar study by
comparing the labor market outcomes of SHS graduates and peers. She compared the
labor market outcomes for SHS graduates and JHS completers, second-year college
completers and post-secondary graduates. She studied labor market performance 6, 9,
and 12 months after SHS graduates left school corresponding to the October 2018,
January, and April 2019 rounds of the LFS. She identified the cohort of interest using the
2017 APIS data. She looked at labor force participation, employment by sector, by class
of worker and basic pay by sector and by class of worker. She summarized her results as
“cup half full.” She finds quality of employment of SHS graduates better than JHS
completers but not second-year college completers.

In the competitive world, graduates need to be successful in academic

achievements and possess the relevant skills to be employed by future employers (Ali,
2014). One of the factors to gauge the effectiveness of an academic institution is through
the employability of its graduates (AARJMD, 2013).

The researcher's knowledge of the local context, prospects, and problems is

limited by the paucity of studies on the development of bartending skills among senior
high school students in Davao City. The efficacy of training programs, the function of
mentoring, career trajectories, and ethical considerations may not be sufficiently
covered by current research.

Therefore, this study intends to shed light on the social and cultural significance
of bartending, inform policies for entrepreneurship and job creation, aid in the
development of effective bartending training programs, and offer insights for the
creation of policies that support SHS students in Davao City.
Research Objectives
The study aimed to explore the obstacles and advantages of Grade 12 senior high
school students towards bartending skills. Specifically, it sought to satisfy the following
objectives:
1. Identify the primary challenges faced by senior high school students in developing
bartending skills in Davao City
2. Explore the opportunities available for SHS students to acquire bartending skills and
pursue related careers,
3. Evaluate the effectiveness of existing bartending training programs for SHS students
in Davao City.

Hypothesis
Ha: There are significant differences in the perceived challenges and opportunities for
developing bartending skills among SHS students in Davao City based on factors including
gender, age, socioeconomic status, and previous experience.
Ho: There is no significant difference in the perceived challenges and opportunities for
developing bartending skills among SHS students in Davao City.

Conceptual Framework
IV DV

Educational Factors:
1. Bartending training programs
2. Quality of training programs

Perceived challenges and

Demographic Factors:
opportunities for developing
1. Age bartending skills among SHS
students
2. Gender
3. Socioeconomic status
4. Previous experience
Research Design
To collect data from a large sample of SHS students in Davao City, the researcher will
be examined using quantitative cross-sectional survey design. To ensure the efficiency of
collecting information on participants’ demographics, experiences, perceptions, and attitudes
related to bartending skills development.

Locale and Respondents

This study will be conducted in Davao City, whereas the target respondents will be
SHS students enrolled in public and private schools within the city.

Population and Sample Size

The population for this study includes all SHS students enrolled in both schools in
public and private in Davao City. A random sampling technique will be used to collect
samples of 50-100 SHS students from the target population. It helps the researcher to
determine the sample size specifically on the level of precision and statistical power for the
study.

Statistical Tools
To analyze the data collected from the survey, descriptive statistics were used to
summarize the demographic characteristics of the respondents and their responses to the
survey questions. Inferential statistics, such as chi-square tests and t-tests, were also
employed to analyze the relationships between variables and test the hypotheses.
