Action title: [Deep Learning-based delamination assessment of complex composite structures from
UGW responses under varying environment]
Date: [29.09.2024]
Date: 29.09.2024
The research project titled SafeCom aims to develop a novel, efficient, and robust online Structural
Health Monitoring (SHM) system based on Deep Learning for composite industrial structures subjected
to extreme and varying environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and pressure. The
key objective is to advance current damage detection methods, particularly delamination assessment,
by leveraging Ultrasonic Guided Waves (UGWs) and a mesh-free computational approach to overcome
limitations in Finite Element Methods (FEM).
3. Deep Learning-Based Inverse Algorithm: A Deep Learning algorithm will be trained using the
UGW responses to accurately quantify delamination damage (size, location, and interface) in
real-time, offering industries a powerful tool for online structural health monitoring.
4. Experimental Validation: Six composite structures will be manufactured, and the numerical
models will be validated through experiments, ensuring industrial relevance and applicability.
Overall, SafeCom seeks to revolutionize the SHM field by delivering a cost-effective, fast, and reliable
monitoring system that enhances the safety, efficiency, and longevity of composite structures in
industries like aerospace, wind energy, and transportation.
