1. Safety notes

1.1. General

The following basic safety notes are intended to prevent injury to persons and damage to
property. The user must ensure that the basic safety notes are read and observed. Ensure
that persons responsible for the machinery and its operation as well as persons who work
independently have read through the documentation carefully and understood it. If you
are unclear with any information in this documentation or if you are require further
information, please contact Wolf Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH.

The following safety notes refer to the use of the machine. Also observe the
supplementary safety notes in this documentation and in the documentation for the
installed units from Wolf Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH.

This document does not replace the detailed documentation for the connected units. This
documentation assumes that the user has access to and is familiar with the
documentation for all connected units from Wolf Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH.

Never install or operate damaged products. Report any damage to the shipping company
immediately. Depending on the degree of protection, units may have live, un-insulated,
and sometimes moving or rotating parts, as well as hot surfaces during operation.
Removing required covers without authorization, improper use or incorrect installation
and operation may result in severe injury to persons, or damage to machinery. Consult
the documentation for further information.

1.3. Designated use

The machine solution is intended for installation in industrial use. The machine solution
is designed for operation in industrial and commercial systems.

Do not use the machine solution for the transport of people or animals. Do not use the
machine solution to operate any lifting applications or cranes.

When installed in electrical systems or machines, startup of the machine solution (i.e. the
start of designated use) is prohibited until it is determined that the machine meets the
requirements stipulated in EU Directive 2006/42/EC (Machinery Directive). Observe
standard EN 60204-1. Startup (i.e. the start of designated use) is only permitted under
observance of EMC Directive 2004/108/EC.

The machine solution meets the requirements stipulated in low voltage directive
2006/95/EC. The standards included in the declaration of conformity are applied for the
machine solution.

Technical data and information about the connection conditions are provided on the
nameplate and in the product documentation. Always comply with the data and
conditions.

1.4. Safety-relevant conditions

The units and solutions described in the documentation may not perform any safety
functions without being properly connected to the interfaces and integrated in the machine
or system, unless these functions are described and explicitly permitted in the associated
documentation.

1.5. Validation

The purpose of the validation is to confirm the specification and conformity of the machine
solution described in this document within the overall specification for the safety
requirements of the machine/plant. The validation must confirm that every safety-related
component of the different safety functions fulfills the required safety guidelines. The
validation process comprises the analysis and tests in accordance with a validation plan.
Consult the various standards (e.g. ISO 13849-1) and corresponding resources. If safety-
relevant components and/or software are modified, the system/machine must be
validated again.

V19.0

1.6. Risk assessment and risk reduction

The plant/machine is assessed and evaluated with respect to its limits, hazards, and risks.
For all risks that could not be adequately reduced, additional structural measures to
minimize the likelihood of any danger are implemented.

At the end of the process, it must be checked that the selected measures are effective in
reducing risk and do not generate additional hazards.

The risk assessment and the selected measures for risk reduction are developed and
performed in accordance with the applicable national regulations for machine and plant
manufacturing (e.g. ISO 12100, ISO 13849, etc.). The technical solutions described in
this document can help to reduce risk by providing additional safety measures.

1.7. Measures by the plant constructor

• The plant constructor has to secure hazardous areas in the design or through
control technology.

• The plant constructor has to take appropriate measures to prevent access to

hazardous areas.

• The plant constructor secures the vicinity of the system through suitable preventive
measures.

5. LOTO (optional)

Lockout-tagout (LOTO) or lock and tag is a safety procedure to ensure that dangerous
machines are properly shut off and not started up again. It requires that hazardous power
sources be "isolated and rendered inoperative" before any repair procedure is started.
LOTO works in conjunction with a padlock. Place the padlock at the device or the power
source it in such a position, that no hazardous power sources can be turned on. The
procedure requires that a tag be affixed to the locked device indicating that it should not
be turned on.

Main air valve Air Gas flushing Main switch

All Valves including the main switch can be secured with a padlock to ensure a maximum
on safety during maintenance work or cleaning the machine.
