Glossary of terms

1. A,B,C..P: Alphabets in the master

timetable have been coded
correspondingly with the master
document herein-below. Check the left
column for the code.
2. R1, R2: The number of times the
subject is expected to be revised. After
having done with the revision of the
particular entry, fill the middle column live
with the code.
3. Eng-1,Log-1: Look into the table
below, both are indicative of practice to be
done from Sectionals, Topics, PYQ and
lastly, CAT sheets or RS Agarwal (in that
order)
4. QL: In the master time table it can be
seen that I have mixed up QL 1 and QL 2 in
the later two weeks. The purpose is simply
to correct your mistakes or get elevated
marks on the non attempts in your QL 2
days.
5. ALL IR, NI and A&C: These refer to
news pertaining to International Relations,
National Importance and Arts and Culture.
The Revision has been coded in a manner
for you to revise similar topics at the same
time.
6. Duration: The tentative duration for
each entry is given. Now you may take
shorter, in that case either speak to me for
update or accelerate the objectives in the
time table.
Please note that the time table is until 3rd
night. 4-8th November will be very crucial
as you will have to catch up on September
and October.
However, if the time table is met with its
hours, there will be very few new updates
to memorise from those later months.
Similarly, if you are accelerating the table,
you may choose to consider finishing
atleast September. In that case for the
update show me once.
7. Instructions: You have been given
instructions in the table. For precise
revision, memory and strategic points in
the exam, please strictly abide by them.
General Note:
1. In case you are taking a print out of
this and making hand filled entries, then
make sure to write the page no of your
other notes in the column for quick
reference.
2. In case you are not taking a print out,
then it makes easier for you to fill and
extend the entries in the table by simply
typing your notes out at one place.
3. In case you are using both, then
make sure if you are referring to other
handwritten notes, their page number or
reference must be there in the given
column below.

<Instruction: Step 1 before every assessment/analysis, it is essential to decode the

type of the passage.>

Anatomy of a Passage (The type of passages in the mocks and exams should be picked in
the order given below. However, the order is general in nature. If a student with a tabled
exercise given below is able to figure his custom type of selection, it is most welcome and
recommended)

1. Political & Current Events-based passages: These passages are the easiest to
understand.

These passages can be accompanied by both direct/factual questions as well as

indirect ones. Most of these passages will necessarily have an analytical tone and
thus figuring out the issue, main argument and conclusion/suggestion of author
becomes an easy work.

2. Social Science Passages: These passages are from historical, geographical and
political arenas. Mostly, these passages are enjoyable to read and are not too
dense.

A lot of inferential questions are asked from these passages to check your reading
and comprehension abilities. Generally, the answer can be inferred by also
reading the line before and after the one referred to.

Some of the questions are straightforward and you can spot the answers directly
from the passage statements.

3. Economics Passages: These are based on important economic theories and

business events. You need to be aware of the basic language and concepts of
business and economics. Since most of you guys belong to humanities, it is the
next easy passage to pick.

Questions posed from these passages will be easy to answer since they are not
too indirect. Look for the direct references from the questions to the passages.

If the passage contains fundamentals from your school subjects, then feel free to
use those concepts to your advantage.

4. Science-based Passages: These passages deal with subjects that belong to

sciences- biology, chemistry, medicine, technology and mathematics. These
passages present a lot of facts, and may appear boring.

Do not get confused by their technical jargon and focus on the main ideas being
presented by the author of the passage. Look in the introduction and conclusion
to know which issue does the passage refers to, is it about a technical concept or
it is discussing an issue in a technical concept.

Most of the time, questions asked from these type of passages are easy to
understand and answer.

If the technicals get confusing, then either avoid the question, or attempt the ones
which are either “quoted” or have a specific reference.

5. Liberal Art Passages: These passages are related to philosophy, sociology and
psychology. Generally, these passages are very dense and demand intense focus
for comprehension.

The questions based on these passages focus on the overall picture, and check
your overall understanding of the ideas presented. Please be wary of following the
Introduction + Conclusion approach in here.

You need to identify the underlying idea to answer the questions correctly. The
contextual meaning plays a vital role here. (The philosophy passages will have the
poetic devices of simile and metaphor used, identifying the metaphor or the
poetic device can also be used to decode)
