Quiz (Closed book quiz): Name:

Q1

Figure shows the voltage gain (in dB) as the function

of frequency of a practical op-amp.
What difference gain in dB if frequency fchanges
from f1 = 1Hz to f2 = 1000Hz

Fig.1

Solutions:

a. What difference gain in dB if frequency f changes from f1 = 1Hz to f2 = 1000Hz

From Fig.1, we see that at 1Hz (10 0) the maximum gain is 100dB. At 1000Hz (10 3 Hz) is 60 dB.
The difference gain in dB is 40 dB (100dB-60dB =40 dB)

Q2:
A transfer characteristic of an amplifier is shown in Fig. 2. Two sinusoidal signals
V 1=0.3 sin ⁡(ωt ) [V] and V 2=3 sin ⁡(ωt ) [V] are input signals to the amplifier. Plot the
waveform of two output signal.
Given that L+¿=15 V , L ¿, Gain A v =10
−¿=−15V ¿

Fig. 2
For V 1=0.3 sin ⁡(ωt ) => vout = Av*V1 = 10∗0.3 sin ( ωt )=3 sin ⁡(ωt )

For V 1=3 sin ⁡(ωt ) => vout = Av*V1 = 10∗3 sin ( ωt )=30 sin ⁡( ωt)

Q3:
The difference amplifier configuration is shown in Figure 3 and assuming an ideal op amp.
Calculate the output voltage if v1=2 (V), v2=1 (V), R1=1K, R2=2K, R3=2K, R4=2K.

Q4:
Figure 4 shows a circuit of first-order high-pass active filter. Derive the transfer function v o /v I.
Express the -3dB cutoff frequency in term of C , R f . The input is a sine wave signal.

Solution
For a sine wave signal, the impedance of capacitor:

ZC =
jωC
1 jωC R F +1
Z1 =R F +Z C =R F + =
jωC jωC

As show in the circuit, the v+ connects to the ground, then v+=0 => v-=0 (V). We have an
equation:
