Al Gurg Fosroc
The company was founded as a joint venture in 1975 between HE Easa Saleh Al Gurg
and Fosroc International. Al Gurg Fosroc is the first construction chemicals company to
establish a manufacturing base in the region, and presently serves the markets of the
U. A. E., Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and other Fosroc companies worldwide.
Fosroc is one of the world's leading manufacturers of advanced technology products for
the construction and refurbishment industries.
For over 45 years, Al Gurg Fosroc is widely recognised as the market leader in concrete
repairs and protection, in particular; and has built a substantial reputation in a wide
range of product fields: Admixtures - Concrete repair and protection - Joint fillers
and sealants -Waterproofing - Protective coatings - Surface treatments -
Waterstops - Grouts and anchors – Flooring – Electrochemical products and
services.
Fosroc's success is built on a powerful combination of market knowledge, technical
resource, manufacturing expertise and problem-solving capabilities. The company
follows a policy of detailed product research and development providing high quality
products and long-term solutions.
The company has been the first construction materials manufacturing company to
introduce specification and AutoCAD services.
Al Gurg Fosroc's products are guaranteed for quality, but they must be applied correctly
and consistently to benefit from a long service life. To ensure this success, Al Gurg
Fosroc has introduced a Contracts and Application Department. This ensures that the
technical product knowledge is transpired to the applicators and the availability of the
local technical support center ensures that the correct application techniques are
followed.
Al Gurg Fosroc's commitment to total quality management system had lead to ISO 9002
certification in December 1994 - the first construction chemicals company in the Gulf
region to achieve this prestigious award. To keep up with the present market demands,
Al Gurg Fosroc has chosen the policy of continuous improvement, which led to
ISO 9001:2015 certification.
Al Gurg Fosroc was awarded the ISO 14001 certification in 1996 making it the first
construction chemicals company and the third company in any sector in the Gulf region
to receive this award.

Section A : General Comments

High temperature working

It is suggested that, for temperatures above 35ºC, the following guidelines are adopted as
good working practice:

(i) Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperature controlled) environment, avoiding
exposure to direct sunlight.
(ii) Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is especially important to
keep cool those surfaces of the equipment, which will come into direct contact with the material
itself.
(iii) Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, arrange temporary shading as
necessary.
(iv) Make sufficient material, plant and labour available to ensure that application is a continuous
process.
(v) Use water (below 20ºC) for mixing the grout prior to placement.

Equipment
It is suggested that the following list of equipment is adopted as a minimum requirement

Protective clothing : Protective overalls

: Good quality gloves, goggles and face mask
Preparation equipment : Marker chalk or pen
: Disc cutter
: Electric/pneumatic breaker or hammer and chisel
: Wire brush
: Proprietary blasting equipment
Mixing equipment : Measuring jug
: 1 KW slow speed drill, 400 or 500 rpm
+ Fosroc MR4 mortar mixing paddle
+ suitably sized mixing vessel, for single bag mixing or
: Proprietary forced-action mixer, for multiple bag mixing
Application equipment : Formwork
: Pouring equipment
Application - points of note
Fosroc operates a policy to encourage the use, where possible, of approved or licensed applicators.
This ensures that repairs are completed satisfactorily so that the long-term performance of the
materials is assured. For contractors who wish to apply the materials themselves Fosroc is also able
to offer technical assistance and training, either on-site or at its Training Centre in Dubai

Section B : Application Method

1.0 Surface preparation
Attention to full and proper preparation of the substrate is essential for complete adhesion to the
substrate.
1.1 Fully clean the concrete pile and steel surfaces to remove laitence, the by-products of
corrosion and other contaminants.
1.2 Break out any loose concrete to reach a sound substrate.

2.0 Substrate priming – water

2.1 Priming with water should take place after erection of the formwork.
2.2 Several hours prior to placing the Supercast PC, the prepared concrete substrates should be
saturated, by filling the formwork with clean water. Immediately prior to application of
Supercast PC, any excess water should be removed via the drainage outlet, leaving the
substrate “saturated surface dry”.

3.0 Formwork
3.1 A circular formwork should be erected concentric to the pile with a gap as per the design
criteria.
3.2 The formwork should be rigid and tight to the blinding to prevent grout loss. Use of silicone
sealant, or similar, is also advised around the edge of the formwork.
3.3 The internal faces of the formwork should be sealed, using Reebol release agent, to ensure
that water is not absorbed from the repair material by the formwork
3.4 The formwork should include suitable drainage outlets for pre-soaking.
3.5 There must be suitable access points to pour the mixed material in place.

4.0 Mixing
4.1 It is essential that Supercast PC is thoroughly mixed and that powder is always added to the
water.
4.2 Water addition: 3 litres per 25kg bag
Measure out appropriate quantity of cool, potable water, into the mixing apparatus. (It is
suggested that the temperature of the water should not exceed 20ºC, so that the temperature
of the final mixed material is not greater than 30ºC).
4.3 With the mixing apparatus in operation add one full 20kg bag of Supercast PC and mix for 3 to
5 minutes until a smooth, even consistency is obtained

constructive solutions

5.0 Placing
5.1 Limits of the pour geometry should be in accordance with that laid down in the „Design criteria‟
section of the current product data sheet.
5.2 The material should be placed within 30 minutes of mixing, in order to gain the full benefits of
fluidity and expansion, which will fill all the voids.
5.3 Placement should be a continuous process, to avoid the formation of a „cold joint‟

6.0 Curing
6.1 Formwork should be left in place until the cured Supercast PC has reached a self-supporting,
compressive strength of 10 N/mm2, or as otherwise advised by the Engineer.
6.2 Immediately after the formwork has been struck, all exposed faces of the repair should be
thoroughly soaked with clean water to remove residual traces of the shutter release agent. The
exposed areas of Supercast PC should then be continuously cured with wet hessain for 72
hours.
6.3 At ambient temperatures above 30ºC supplementary curing in the form of polythene sheeting,
taped down at the edges, must be used.

7.0 Cleaning
7.1 Supercast PC should be removed from tools, equipment and mixers with clean water
immediately after use. Cured material can only be removed by mechanical means.
7.2 Nitobond EP can only be removed from tools and equipment using Fosroc Solvent 102.

Section C : Approval and variations

This method statement is offered by Fosroc as a „standard proposal‟ for the application of Supercast
PC. It remains the responsibility of the Engineer to determine the correct method for any given
application.

Where alternative methods are to be used, these must be submitted to Fosroc for approval, in
writing, prior to commencement of any work. Fosroc will not accept responsibility or liability for
variations to the above method statement under any other condition.
